I can't wait for cycling, swimming and gymnastics. Phelps is swimming for perhaps his last time in an Olympics. Valverde in cycling!  Mens road race the 6th, womens the 7th.

After all the bad press from athlete's from certain countries I hope it's the usual grand event. I'll be watching the opening ceremony.

They said on the radio that Andy Murray will be the flag bearer for team GB  :tu:

I've seen that same photo in many articles over the last few months. I wish they'd stop scaremongering all the time. They did the same sort of stuff about the east end of London before the 2012 Olympics, and it was a great event.

Well, Rio de Janeiro isn't London, really. ;) I'd say brasilian reality is very different to the average european one.

This is not the place to discuss such matters but social inequity and injustice are huge in Brasil and the result is a high rate of criminality and police brutality. I'd love to visit Brasil but I'd be constantly on the lookout.

Greg Van Avermaet rode a good race and deserved the gold. I thought no one was going to catch Rafal Majka with how much of a lead he had at one point.

Those falls on the decent looked nasty. It's lucky no one was seriously injured.  The guy with the broken collar bone looked remarkably calm after his fall. I don't know if it was shock or something like that. When I cracked mine I didn't sit there all calm like that.

I was watching some of the tennis earlier and noticed something - the background walls are painted the same shade of green as a tennis ball. :facepalm:

No explanation why the diving pool was green yet. A lot of comments from pool people that it's just a chlorination problem.
