What type of tool would you bring on survivor??
on: September 14, 2008, 08:50:40 PM
Sitting here and watching the first episode of this seasons Survivor. Just saw what the their personal item was and it was just one that brought a knife with him, there was a man that had a magnifying glass with him, sure it’s easy too make a fire butt that’s it.

So, if you where a contestant on Survivor and you decided that the only thing you could bring with you was a Tool. Would it bee a SAK or a MT and witch model??
There is no problem that cannot be solved by the use of high explosives.

Multitool w/serrated blade.

-SwissGrip,with blade filed to have partial serrations :D
-LM Core
-SOG Toolclip

in this order, any of those would serve my taste.

I'd bring a Vic SwissTool Standard. It has great rust resistance, straight and serrated knife blades, and an awl and woodsaw..

LM Wave!! It has both serrated and straight edge blades, and is a literal life saver/survival tool.

A 111mm Sak, probably an Atlas or Tradesman, as to my mind at least they'd be far more useful in a survival situation :)

Given the circumstances I would probably take my Swisschamp as it has handy stuff for digging all these splinters that I would get out of me and with a little thought it can handle bigger jobs too

yeah and if id find a sunkens ships castaways i could maybe do it wwith base of porcelain/chine cups.

how many btw knows that trick?

it seems to work pretty fine, you just flip over your coffee mug,and use the part, that hasnt been polished to sharpen your blade.

Yep done it, you don't get a nice fine edge, but good enough to get the job done :)

Never seen it but I'm going to make a wild guess that its some kind of survival program :P

In that case a PE Trekker or the like.

Would also go for the SURGE, but the question is will you leave your multitool when you are eliminated early?
Multitools are the best thing that happened to mankind since the invention of the wheel!

Surge, if only for the blade-sharpening. Sure I could sharpen on a rock, but that diamond file would be a heck of a lot nicer. If I didn't take the Surge, I'd probably take a Wave. Charge would be up there too, but I'm not sure I want to try sharpening 154cm or s30v on a rock. :P The great thing about the Wave/Charge/Surge design is that your tools are spread across 6 different locks, so if one or two fail, it's not the end of the world.

I've never saw the show, but I'm assuming it's a desert island type thing, so I'd go with an old Wave;

Two blades, great saw, great file.  No awl though...

And even though there aren't any mechanical things on a desert island..the plier would come in handy for getting stuff in/out of a fire, untying knots, pulling splinters/thorns...

EDIT:
But I'd probably give it all up for a $10 carbon Mora :D
