My First SAK - Evolution 23
on: August 07, 2016, 09:39:20 PM
Couple of weeks, I have been thinking to buy my first SAK for my EDC rotation and my interest list was not so short:  ::)

But, at the end of some serious reading and watching, today I have ordered my first SAK Evolution 23  :climber:

Here is my list and factors on my decision (also my buying prices in Russia)

1- Super Thinker (It was a good size, pocketable and economic option. But I decided to have a corkscrew for EDC as my wife loves wine and several times I had to open wine bottles without corkscrew, with my Leatherman Surge in outdoor... 20USD)
2- Deluxe Thinker (Because of pliers, size and weight increase. For EDC I didn't want it. Also no corkscrew..32USD)
3- Huntsman (It was my first decision. I liked it and also I understood I should have a saw blade. So as many first timers, I also decided to buy Huntsman as a first SAK... 23USD)
4- Evolution 17 (This was very close to Huntsman but with a less size and grip scales. Also knife blade was locking. And price was only 28USD.. So again changed my mind and decided to buy this. No hook and second blade, but they were not so important for me)
5- Explorer (But then, I saw the Explorer model. I liked the magnifying glass. In my little EDC pouch I have a dedicated little magnifying glass. Not too often, but I use it, especially in knife sharpening process. But there was a problem now, I have to choose between saw and magnifying glass... 32USD)
6- Evolution 23 (At last I found that, with both magnifying glass and saw... also 85mm.. as good as 30USD.. no second blade but nail file.. no locking blade like evo 17 but better in pocket carry... Just only I wish it had black-red grip scales as evo 17, but okey.. )

As a result, my first SAK will be a evolution 23. I am excited to have one of those shining red knives as EDC. (McGyver nostalgy)

As soon as I will receive it, I will put here photos and my adventures with it. I am sure I will love it, too  ;)

Lastly, my questions:
-- Did anyone manage to start a fire with that magnifying glass? (in different forums, there is different comments about it, I couldn't be sure)
-- Does anyone carry it on the neck with a lanyard, is it comfortable size and weight?
-- If I will order a mini screwdriver, will it go with that corkscrew?

That's a nice SAK.
I burned a paper with Vic's SAK, I mean I burned a hole in it. The larger the lens, the more light it collects, the higher temperature it produces. Victorinox lens is small, Wenger lens (the one you'll have) is smaller.
It is heavy for neckwear.
The mini driver fits the corcscrew. If they use Vic screw (I'm not sure) it will fit firmly, if Wenger's, then with a little play.

23's are awesome and if you got the Vic version, the new octagonal corkscrew will fit...mine does!

Congrats!!! It will carry on a neckcord (just tried it)....not too heavy but still a 5 layer SAK so it depends on the wearer.

That's a great looking knife.  I love the Delemont collection.
