Day 28:
(Attempting it ALL single layer!)

The audacious Alox Bantam steps up to answer the call to duty today!

Breakfast, and finishing it off with a Mandarin orange to go with a cup of coffee. How to peel it with the Bantam instead of a 58mm MiniChamp or 74mm Executive?

Fear not, for the opener on the Bantam can open this orange as well as cans and bottles! Medical Bill would be pleased the large spear point blade isn't being used at the risk of life and limb. Using the lower corner of the can opener at an angle, it can pierce the orange peel, and using the thumb to guide the depth, it can be drawn through it in a spiral.

A little experimentation will get the angle just right and it's nearly as quick as the MiniChamp or Executive orange peeler blades! The peel comes off in one piece and Bob's your Uncle, a nice juicy orange without the peel.

Once again, the audacious Alox Bantam steps up to the task with ease!

Amici,
After a long absence, I have returned as well as discovered this thread, and have been participating albeit off to a late start.. So far, I'm on day # 5, and here is what I carry for EDC with the possible addition of a Buck 110 every now and then on the weekends, especially at this time of year.

I guess you can say that I've fallen in "l-u-v" with my Victorinox Champion once again, especially since I attached a P-7 suspension clip which makes pocket carry a no brainer...

Cheers,
Serge

Welcome back Serge, and welcome to the minimal* challenge. :tu:

It's mainly an expression in the UK and commonwealth;

From Wiki - Bob's your uncle
...And Bob's your uncle is an expression of unknown origin, commonly used in Great Britain and Commonwealth countries. Typically, someone says it to conclude a set of simple instructions, similar to the French expression "et voilà !".

I first heard it from some Canadians who either were originally from the UK or had close relatives there. While stationed in Europe I heard it again from British soldiers (BAOR) when we coordinated joint operations with their officers during NATO exercises. Knew the UK crowd on the other side of the pond would recognize it immediately.

Day 29:
(Attempting it ALL single layer!)

The venerated 93mm Alox Solo takes on today's challenges . . .

It starts with slicing the breakfast bagel, using the same safe(er) technique demonstrated with other blades shorter in length than the bagel diameter.

On next to cutting a small slice of ham in half to put on the bagel with the cream cheese . . .

And you know what they say, "An apple a day keeps Medical Bill away!". I start by making partial slices all the way around, and then slicing all the way down on the second go around. The Solo's crazy sharp blade makes this easy work!

Finally to chip the small part out with the seeds. A small slice in and a slight twist of the wrist is usually all it takes.

And, Bob's your Uncle, breakfast is served!

A solid breakfast puts the day off to a great start for the Alox Solo!

John
(with only one more day to go!)

No oranges were harmed in the making of this forum posting (no guarantee for their future safety though).

Thanks!
It's been an interesting journey. Tomorrow I can start using some of my multiple layer discontinued to complete that challenge. A couple folks could probably guess which one will be first. It's been my favorite SAK for decades.

Where is the Cross on that baby?

The 2070s doesn't have one. From what I've been able to determine, there were model numbers that did (red alox with keyring ??) and others that didn't (silver alox without keyring ??). It is from the 1970's OC era. The SAKWiki Excelsior entry and online SAKWiki catalogs have only given partial insight into the variations.

Should probably cruise through sakhome.com to see if there's anything more there.

More Information . . .
Just found this catalog page in the SAKWiki 1970's catalog pages and don't know how I missed it before. Shows the red with cross and keyring (2070Ur+), and silver without cross or keyring (2070s). . .

Congrats on the completion, John

I own an OC 84mm alox Popular, and it really makes an alox bantam seem bulky in comparison.
If only there was a way to get a cap lifter instead of the small pen blade

I kind of miss carrying the SI after all this time. Very solid. Although not enough to carry it instead of my beloved Pikacthulhu:

Thanks Tom!
I had the same observation when I unwrapped it. Went and got the Bantam to compare them. Then I got the calipers out. It isn't just height or the shape, it's thickness too. The Bantam is about 6mm thick and the Excelsior is only 5.3mm thick.

Thanks . . . it's been an interesting journey and wanted to have fun with it. I am looking forward to using some of the discontinued multiple layer SAKs to finish that challenge. Already know which SAK I'll be using tomorrow.
