Collecting Classics?
on: October 06, 2016, 02:23:20 AM
What Classics do you guys collect?

I myself mostly only collect them with advertising for automotive, coal industry related, construction, agriculture, emergency vehicle, and railroad related, and the occasional one that just strikes my fancy, especially if the advertising is inlaid metal, not a print.  I also don't mind them in Alox or the related Bijou.  I also collect some special runs, like the US armed forces ones.  I'm not a fan of the Classic as a standalone EDC at all.

I also have a good selection of Classics. Have a fair number of advertising ones, but generally go with ones with colorful handles. Particularly fond of the ones with flags. While I have  a bunch of them, I'm more likely to go with a Wenger Pocket Tool Chest if I want a small carry knife.

Victorinox should make a super-limited run of "Insane Collector" SAKs and send them, free of charge, to anyone who can prove they own more than, I dunno, 200 of any particular model...
Because they would go directly into the hands of insane collectors, who would sooner lose a kidney than part with such a treasure, these things would virtually never show up on ebay and would soon acquire legendary status.
(OK - they're called Damascus Pioneers. But I was thinking of a Damascus Classic or something equally silly and precious... maybe 32 of them in the entire world...)

This is a brilliant idea.  I would love to see a Damascus Classic.  That would be pretty incredible.  To make it more exclusive I say raise the 200 requirement to 500 or 1000 then we'd really never see those gem on the secondary market.

Side note.  I wish the powers that be would have a little fun and do something like this.

Even though I don't really collect Classics, I do have a few. Probably I'll get the desert camo Classic as well. BTW there's only one genuine Classic in the pic, that's the red one, the rest are all SD's.

Stainless PTC
Evo 88 (red scales)

Just one of each
