First, so as not to confuse anyone ESEE KNIVES are manufactured by a company called Rowan. Jeff Randall is the company owner last I read.
But per ESEE customer service who I spoke with, (and I already sort of knee this anyway) the company is not an offshoot or related to the famed Randall Made Knives in Orlando FL.
One is an American Legend.
One is a knife marketed to LEOs, military,
first responders and outdoor enthusiasts.
ESEE/Rowan knives is the latter.
Both companies make stainless and carbon steel knives of course.
ANY KNIFE you're gonna use in a salty, nasty muddy outdoor environment will need some form of RUST PREVENTATIVE.
I prefer EEZOX but Corrosion X Is also excellent.
. I will be testing Tuf Glide Marine products soon myself.
Why? Easier to apply, not as picky, great reviews.
You will have to regularly adjust and protect the edge of a carbon steel knife in any environment, like that.
I don't care who makes it. It's that simple. Mineral oil won't do it. Ya gotta keep the salt rinsed off with fresh water.
Every diver I've ever read anything from repeatedly stresses this point. Hence, titanium blades etc
There is only 1 steel that will not rust in a salsmurfer environment that I am aware of and that is Spyderco H1. It will rust/pit if exposed to POOL CHLORINE TABLETS..,I'm not kidding one damn bit...that's what it takes.
H1 is a work hardening steel with very very little carbon...hence, edge holding problems associated with such!
So in short, unless you're gonna pound the hades out of it, the new mora looks great! I love MORAS!
If you wanna spend more $$ ESEE, tailored to your use.
AFAIK KBAR/Becker doesn't make stainless yet. See above.
But if you want an American Knife Legend, a Randall Made knife will not disappoint you....be prepared..$$$$...and there's up to a 5 year wait depending!
