Leatherman MUT- worthy successor to the Skeletool?
on: October 15, 2016, 03:23:40 PM
http://boingboing.net/2016/10/14/leatherman-mut-great-looking.html

For someone that is supposedly a multitool expert I can't help but see a lot of limitations in his opinions and gaps in his knowledge.

He seems less like a multitool guy and more like a guy pretending to know what he is talking about in order to get paid to publish articles.

That was a weird article.
He spent more time talking about what an "expert" he is than about the tools.

Yeah... did you hear about the Russian T-98 KOMBAT, it is the cool successor to the Mini Cooper
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

I have never referred to myself as an expert and I own the premier reference organization for the industry.

But hey, he has a Skeletool and I just can't compete with that.

For what you actually get in content from that article, it's a waste of space.  What is there is drivel.  Obviously not a user of either guns or multitools.  I think you nailed it Grant, he's a writer who was thrown a bone on an article and he made do.

I came in here thinking you were just asking a question but then saw the link  :D It is in the same family as the Skeley but not  a successor at all :ahhh Two different animals really, kinda like maybe a Bobcat or a Lynx as the Skeley and the MUT as a Tiger perhaps :D

Theres a new MUT competing with Skeletool? And with the same carabiner? Opens one handed?
You can swap bits with one hand too? Wow! I need this!
Shame that he just used the photo of the basic BO MUT there.

Goes good with these socks he reviewed also:

Review summary: I don't own the MUT nor ever will but I like how it looks.

Useless.

Cory Doctorow is actually a fairly famous "blogger" and fiction writer, has published a few books, and won several awards.

Also a supporter for a number of freedoms in the digital world.

So, I'm not entirely sure why he's doing pointless filler articles on random gizmos that popped up on his radar but he's never actually used, or seen in use.

Also, apparently his Daughter's name is Poesy Emmeline Fibonacci Nautilus Taylor Doctorow - So it's also possible he is just batsmurf insane.

I don't think he was hands on with the MUT. I think he just looked at pictures and assumed that because it has similar aesthetics to the Skeletool it would be about the same size. But it did also remind me of his other writing, and his site in general. Overlong, narcissistic, and lacking in substance.

I respect what he does with digital rights, to a point, but maybe he should step away from the sharp objects.

To be fair, that would make him spot-on to write any review or article in every shooting, 4wding, fitness, or food magazine I've ever read

Hell, people fall into the trap of narcissism even without being paid for their opinion.  Once the internet happened, everyone was suddenly an expert and right all the time.
