Found a bunch of SAKs for sale locally!
on: October 30, 2016, 02:02:04 PM
http://www.adverts.ie/hand-tools/victorinox-spartans-compact-climber-huntsman-clearout-collection-etc-construction-edc-hiking-camping-fishing/11656144
Link leads to a listing on a local buy/sell website for a small collection of SAKs.  :o
On photo 14, I see a super tinker with backspring philips, square shank on one side and rounded(pic-12) on the other side?
When was that philips discontinued? It seems like a nice not-quite vintage(?) sak for my collection. (another sak?!  bad me!  :twak:)
Also the scissors have the screw!
If the description is to be believed, that super tinker should cost 9-12EUR.

I think I see a fluted corkscrew on at least one sak, cant really tell. You see anything else that looks interesting?
Lots of old logo vic as well, and some newer two layer wenger?
Ad 111mm Alpiner/Cowboy with red scales?

Cheers!

If you don't already have a slim and simple 111mm I'd say definitely go for the Cowboy or whatever it is.
I find it difficult to get excited about 91mm Victorinoxes at the moment - especially the red ones! - but the prices seem reasonable, and some of those advertising scales are cool. I'd get the Dunlop!

Thanks for your input! That 111mm looks more comfortable to use than a fireman?
I might get a wenger(two in pic-5), assuming they have the wenger can opener, to try it out. Choices choices choices!  :ahhh

Anyone else have thoughts about the selection offered? You can probably spot something I missed.
Still thinking about the old super tinker.
Hooked, like everyone else. ;)

All hail the hook!

There's at least one vintage square Phillips with the file along the side. One other looked as if it might be a partially square on three sides with the exposed edge rounded. SAKWiki gives information on five different back layer Phillips and states there may be more in the text . . .

First off, the Super Tinker looks like a "no brainer" - a more useful SAK, gram for gram, is impossible to imagine...

Whether you pick a single layer 111mm or something more fun like a Fireman is only for you to decide. The single layer is obviously going to be cheaper but with no openers, it's a bit limiting. It's nice to have a simple knife for times where, if you ruin the blade, it's not the end of the world - but it's also nice to have a SAK that let's you pop the lid off a beer bottle or prise the top off a tin of paint. Personally I favour 2-3 layers - I think the Fireman is 4. If I really had to pick one and one only? I'd take a 3 layer Soldier/Trekker/Forester. From the 2 you mention I would go Fireman.

Anyway, have a fun time picking out the goodies from this selection!

Is the one branded GEA or GFA on image 20/24 91mm or 84mm long?  Looks like it's got a saw and scissors, might be an 84mm Huntsman...
