Gerber Radius
on: September 01, 2008, 02:38:52 AM
I just picked up a Gerber Radius from Target for $22 bucks... I think this tool is the biggest piece of crap in the world! I honestly would rather have a Suspension. The handles are so wide it is unbelievable! Although, I have to admit- the handles are pretty comfortable.. Anyways, back to the rant! This tool is such a POS. For the money, I'd rather buy a LM Fuse.. They basically have the same tools too.. And, the Fuse is a hell of a lot thinner! If anyone is looking for a tool like this, I suggest you look away! This tool is far to bulky for the minimal tools you get!  >:(

Unfortunately, this is pretty well par for the course for many of Gerber's current issue tools.  They do have some good ones- the Flik, Artifact, MP600 and Diesel come to mind- but the Tread, Suspension, Resolve, Evo, Ripstop etc all seem like cheap, depressing crapola.

They couldn't be worse if they were made by Taylor!  :P

LOL! I agree with you. I really like my Flik, MP series, Diesel, Freehand, and Legend tools.. They definitely are quality tools! I like the 800 Legend the most! That is one sweet tool!

You only like the 800 because it's got a giant footprint like the Surge!  :P

LOL! I really like the replaceable wire cutters to be honest! That is a great feature!

Yeah, I wish more companies would adopt a similar system.

I know. I wish LM would have a full size tool with spring loaded pliers too!

I don't know, I am not certain how I feel about the spring loaded pliers.  I don't know if I like them or not.  I don't think I do, but then that might just be an association thing since there really aren't any high end spring loaded plier models.

I love having spring action in pliers in general - but some of the implementations of springs don't seem as sturdy as others.

For example, I don't like the "spring coiled between the handles" pliers so much. But I do have some needle nose pliers with a simple spring mechanism right in the pivot which I like a lot.

I don't love them.. But, I think it would be interesting to see a full size LM w/ spring loaded pliers..

The Gerber Legend is the only full size decent tool that is spring loaded, I use to own one and it was pretty slick. The Spring loaded piece in the genius would be a heck of alot tougher than what is in the Legend.
