Weird stuff: Spend $120 for 100 dollar bill?
on: November 09, 2016, 03:23:27 AM
I just don't get it. Here is one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-US-100-Dollar-Bill-Federal-Reserve-Bank-Note-Authentic-Circulated-Paper-Bills-/282127737373

And more listings like that

One of the listing kind of explain why (http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-100-One-Hundred-US-Paper-Money-Dollars-Federal-Reserve-Note/302106045826). A way to convert "eBay bucks" for real money. But still, what the hell...

Still, you pay less than twice its value...

I once sent a 1ct coin to Italy, it did cost 110 times the value of the coin to ship it. Fortunately, I sent 3 at a time so, shipment was only 37 times higher than the contents value.
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

In Switzerland it is bad luck to gift a knife, so you gift the knife and a coin. And the recipient gives you the coin back "buying" the tool.
Therefore some Wengers came with a Swiss 1ct coin in them (see image below). There was a collector who had the box and knife but was missing the coin (1ct coins are no longer in circulation in Switzerland, but there are still plenty around).

That is pretty odd. I've paid more than face value for several bills, but I'm talking about the "HAWAII" dollars from WWII. But paying $120 for a current $100 bill? Yeah, I'll pass.....

For our international members who don't know what a Hawaii dollar is, during WWII there was a fear that the Japanese would invade the islands, and use the American currency from there to fund secret operations on the mainland. The solution was to pull ALL of the cash from circulation and replace it with bills stamped "HAWAII" on both the front and back. These bills were not legal tender on the US mainland.
