Hi all, new forum member here!
on: December 03, 2016, 11:18:11 PM
Hi all, new forum member here! I've been lurking around for awile and decided to post my first topic.  :)

So, just a little background, I've been into SAK's and Victorinox almost all my life, started with my grandpa that had a small classic Vic, a Princess i believe, probably from late 60's early 70's, no toothpick and tweezers. I absolutely loved those red scales and the logo, bugged my grandpa to play around with it when ever i had the chance. He lost it some years later witch is a shame, it would be a great thing for me to have to remember him by...
Years leter came MacGyver, and as you may tell by my nick name, baecame a die hard fan as well as increased my love for SAK's. Got my Dad to buy me a Spartan back in the day, and had it and used it for years. Obviously my collection grew through the years, but i'm really just a user rather than a collector. So all my Vic's are user SAK's (and most classic red's  :D)

After watching some videos os multiple tricks, i've come across one that teaches to use the bottler opener to function as a multiple screw deiver handle by using multiple screw driver bits and it's hex adapter. But after i watched i thought, why would the adapter is even necessary? One can just use the multiple bit's them selves  by cutting a slotted groove on the hex part and then is can be used with any flat head screwdrivers on the SAK (or any screwdriver for that matter). Used my Dremel tool for the job.

I've no idea if this solution is original or not, but i'll leave it here anyway. This way you can have any kind of in-line screw driver with your SAK. Just carry as many bit measures as you want with you  ;) I carry my 4 bits on a small keychain pouch where i carry my keys and coins.

I used a #1, #2, #0 philips bits and a #1,5 flathead that's handy for glasses and other small screws ;)
I usualy EDC either a Tinker or small tinker, or super tinker or the evo s16 so no cork screw for me :D

Well mine isn't actualy from the Dremel brand. It's a generic brand called Top Craft i got some time ago, but it's the same kind of tool. I used a small diamond cutting disk at a relatively low speed to cut the slots . It's a nice little tool for this type of jobs.

Mine is this one:

 No wories there mate, my bank account is already suffering just from the SAK's and related stuff. They push prices up a bit in some places here in Europe  :-\
I also love multitools but Leatherman is hard to find here, the Swiss tools are easier to get, but bloody expensive. I'll eventualy get some, but not for "regular" EDC.
I also have to distribute expenses through all my "passions", being music the worst of them, as i play multiple instruments. So between guitars, basses, keyboards, SAK's and the lot of other stuff, you can imagine... :D

BTW, i went to the Victorinox rep here in my country this week to drop one of my super tinker's for repairs and get some replacement scales, some small screw drivers and replacement toothpick's and tweezers, thet's all they can sell to general public. Needless to say i was there for over an hour drooling over all the limited editions  they have on display , and hard to find models, and other beautifull hunting knife brands too. If they could sell SAK's to the general public all of my christmas bonus would be gone
Also scored a printed copy of the latest SAK catalog  :D

I was wondering, is there any general thread of SAK tips and tricks/uses here? I've looked for it briefly, but found none yet. Maybe is staring right in my face as always and I didn't see it...

Ok, so here's something I thought up when I had the screwdriver bits idea, but never got around to do it.
Since using the bottle/can opener flathead's with the grooves open can be a bit unstable and you have to always hold both so they don't slip, I've added heat shrinking tubing to the bits. This way the flathead's will fit inside the groove without slipping, as the heat shrink tube is flexible enough, and you also get better grip :D
Hope its helpful for someone  :tu:

This deserves a :bump:.

I'd like to try this out, so I'll go and search for some cheap bits at the car boot sales, so I don't lose anything by messing it up.

I wonder if there's a way to use 6mm bits with a SAK?
