Will Etherealicer ever like the Skeletool
on: December 05, 2016, 09:37:13 PM
So, I got a Skeletool recently and despite my dislike of it, I will carry it for a couple of days. After all, it could be my perfect EDC tool as it features the tools I most commonly need.
I call mine Quasimodo, as it is ugly, deformed and such. I mean the inner part of the blade-fame should sit flush with the pliers frame (see image). But maybe I can discover its sweet side :D

I used it for some light cutting (string, to make paper bundles for the collection).
The clip is in the way and taking it off will improve grip for me so, that's what I did. The clip is in the wrong position and it rides too high up anyway.

Conclusion for the day.
- Removing the clip improves grip-comfort
- I wish it came in PE

I wish they still came with the PE blade Eth :-\ Mine is the old style and it has a PE blade  I really wished that they didn't put the combo blade on as much stuff as they did though  Hope you can get on with it and it earns at least a part time EDC spot :tu:

I'm very interested in how you get along mate. :tu:  I did pretty much the same thing a few years ago and, as far as I was concerned, it failed to do what I needed from a MT.

I like combo edges.  The serrated bit of blade does very well on fibrous material such as palm fronds which I have a lot of.

You can do it
Solving problems you didn't know you had in the most obscure way possible

"And now, it's time to hand this over to our tame race axe driver. Some say, he can live in the forest for six months at a time without food, and he knows of a secret tribe of only women where he is their God. All we know is, he's call the Styx!" - TazzieRob

I would take that over the bottle opener as well but I really never use either on any of my MTs or SAKs  :D

I personally prefer a bottle opener than a can opener.  I use bottle openers a lot on my tools but yet to use a can opener.

Yeah I agree. I don't use the can opener as much. But there so many ways to open a bottle: Bic lighter, table edge, front teeth (never tried it but I had a buddy that did it all the time. Like....all the time),etc. But a can? I only know the Bear Grylls way.

You have to forgive me, I'm lying in bed, feeling really bad, so I got a bit grumpy and I need to let of some steam.... there are just so many things about the Skeletool that upset me. No, its not that the Skeletool can't lie flat on a table, why would anybody care about that, it has to lie flat in your pockets!

Why do the bloody holes in the frame and the springs not align :ahhh

uffff... feeling slightly better now, but wait.

Why is the frame over the orange part bent all out of shape, you can even see in the picture the light from the holes... :ahhh :ahhh

Ok, I admit those are just cosmetic problems, although they could also be seen as "not giving enough attention to detail". But it is the final flaw that really hurts me...

Why is there a spike standing out from the frame? :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh

Don't let the fit and finish bother you.  ::)   :D

I like it for:

One Hand Outside opening blade...that locks.

Carabiner fidget function.

Handy pliers...medium duty

and the driver is functional.

I do have the bit kits and extended driver as well.

All that said, I carry it in my bag and I have several of them.

For December I am carrying the CRKT Folts Minimalist.....with a bunch of other MT's in my bag, car and house ready to help out.

Well, letting that out actually helped a bit... now I can focus on the positive things about the tool. I'm feeling much better about the tool now :D

I just used it to tighten a screw (loose handle on a drawer) and I really like the screwdriver.

Any multitool has better ergonomics, L shape with bigger torque, to use it like a screwdriver than a SAK

L shape is good for breaking the screws loose, once that happened straight handle can turn them faster.

Yeah, L shape is OK for a quarter turn, but to properly drive a screw all the way in or out, an inline configuration is much more efficient. I always close pliers tools up for driving screws unless they're in hard to reach areas

Yeah, I'm with Kampf and Al here... The Skeletool doubles quite well as a screwdriver and the driver is nicely on the center axis.
