slip case with pocket clip or lanyard hole
on: December 17, 2016, 11:59:59 PM
Anyone ever carry a small-to-medium multitool or SAK in a slip case that has either a pocket clip or at least a hole where you could attach a lanyard, that in turn could be hooked to your belt, or belt loop to facilitate retrieving it?  Is such a thing even available?  I'm thinking for use with tools like the LM Rebar or the SAK Electrician which have neither a belt clip nor a lanyard hole.  Besides, I have found lanyards attached to the tool itself look cool, but tend to get in the way during use.

I used to use one that was actually the flimsy little nylon belt sheath that came with the Mini Maglite.   Today, I use this one that was technically trench art, and came with an Imperial Demo Knife.  Works great with 93mm Vics, Large Stockmans, electrician's, and other medium-to largish traditional knives and multifunction pocketknives. I use it both as a slip case and belt sheath.  Belt sheath for working knives, slip case for nice old knives I don't want to ding.

I plan to make one myself, eventually.   Being just one long piece of thin webbing sewn up, it should be hard to make.  The webbing from this, apparently, came from a duffel bag, as I saw a bag in a local surplus store with the same webbing.

I have a William Henry slip case with pocket clip. It'll hold a 2 or 3 layer SAK. This particular model currently isn't featured on the WH website but there are others. The case on the left is a standard Victorinox slip case.

I sort-of like that, but it would be better if the clip was higher up, so that the whole leather pouch bit was fully in the pocket, no? i.e. more of a deep-carry clip. Or do you find it works okay as is?

BTW is that a small, medium or large WH slip case? I'm assuming small? Also, is there any exposed metal from the clip inside the case that could scratch-up a knife, or is it rounded (like the Swisstool Spirit case) or covered?

The clip itself is in its own "pocket", no metal parts inside the slip. I don't know the size of it. I bought in in a Dutch shop because it fitted my knife, I didn't know at the time that I was buying a WH sheath. And I think it carries deep enough.

Okay thanks, I might order one, if I can work out which size to get: http://www.williamhenry.c...slip-cases/clip-case.html

That one is entirely different. It doesn't look like the clip is attached to a separate piece of leather. Although I can't imagine that WH would attach the clip in a way which might harm the knife. Just look at the knives and you'll see why.

Given the price of the knives I'd be surprised if their cases would damage them!

BTW I've looked at the sizing of their slipcase and am pretty sure the one that is closest to the size of a 91 or 93mm SAK is their "Medium" one, as the WH knife models that they say fit it are up to about 92.5mm

I'd be tempted to treat myself to one, except shipping to the UK would be an eye-watering $97.97!
