Thinking about getting an Artifact.
on: June 06, 2008, 01:30:46 PM
Does anyone here have an Artifact and what are your thoughts on it?

Also, where could I find replacement blades for it in the USA?

I picked up an Artifact at the Blade show last weekend, have not had a chance to to use it yet except for the screwdrivers that are on it. It's a neat little tool and doesn't weight a whole lot, good bang for the buck. Would come in real handy when you need to do some prying or scraping. The blade that comes in it is an xacto #11 hobby blade, in the Gerber catalog it says the tool is suppose to come with 2 replacement blades, mine did not and I have been looking into it. I figure walmart or any hobby place like jo-ann's or something should be able to carry that blade, if not there is always online stores and ebay.

 :pok:

Actually, any hobby shop or hardware store should have replacement blades as they seem to be the standard X-Acto type blades used in just about anything else.  I have an Artifact on the way to me now, and I was so impressed by it at the SHOT Show I just had to have one.  I'll probably get a bunch of them for stocking stuffers at Christmas because I was so impressed with them.

I didn't get a chance to use it for anything at SHOT, and they weren't released to the public yet (or I'd have had one!) so I've had to wait as well.  Still, I'm looking forward to putting it through it's paces.

I am keen to get one as well.

I am hoping someone here will get one and show what's it's like with the blade and the holder removed.

Wow, that hint worked without the pokey stick.  :D  :pok:

From the pics I have seen, it looks as though the blade, the holder and even the locking mech come off really easily.  I just hope it's finished well underneath.

I have ordered my Gerber Artifact from Gerber-Tools.com. From last experience with them, the toll should be here soon. Review coming as well

Looks like Target stores (USA) will be selling Gerber Artifacts.  I saw them in a Target store today for the first time.  They were located in the same department as Leatherman Multitools and Gerber knives.

Oh, I didn't notice this. I have one on my keychain right now... ordered it from Amazon at some point.

Someone else will have to take pictures though, I don't have a decent camera. :D

I saw them at Target the other day when browsing for clearance stuff(no luck on that though).  I had to wrestle with the idea of spending the $10 on the Gerber Artifact or a couple of pizzas, and the tool won... barely.   :D  It feels like a sturdy little tool and I'm looking forward to putting it to use.

I don't know guys... I just don't see the EDC value of this tool, unless you work in shipping/receiving dept in a company. It looks like a utility knife mated with an Atwood. Ok, I'll shut up now.  >:D

Much like the Atwoods it's essentially a bottle opener for your keychain that has additional features. :twak:

But it's hella cheaper. :D

I bought one today at Target. Can anyone say Atwood?  :D  Besides that, it's a really cool little tool!

With everything being so crazy around my house lately, I forgot I bought one of the MT.O branded ones!  I'll have to find the box and start using it :)

I still have no information regarding the Shard... sooner or later I'll get a review posted.  In the meantime I've been using it to open a few beverages and can't remember what it was I was supposed to do with it....

It's probably the best Gerber bottle opener.  It's a bit shorter, but has the grips cut into it.
