Inova X5
on: September 30, 2008, 08:37:21 PM
Heinnies have just dropped the price of the Inova X5 http://heinnie.com/product.asp?s=kiwiYc733352&CAT_ID=102&P_ID=3246 and I was just wondering if anyone here has tried one?  I have been keen on these for a while now.

Many thanks

Ben

It's a good, durable light, but the technology is a bit old.  It ought to go well with your Super Tool!  ;) :D

It uses 5, 5mm leds which are most likely not going to have a pure white tint, and the efficiency of the light (runtime) on two CR123 cells isn't that great compared to the newer lights.

Don't get me wrong though--it's a very good quality light.  If you factor in the price, it seems like a fairly good deal.

I can't seem to find out much about output .  Do you know what to expect from this?

Here you go:

http://www.flashlightreviews.com/reviews/inova_x5t.htm

You can compare outputs with this chart:

http://www.flashlightreviews.com/features/chart_manu.htm

I think it would be safe to assume that the X5 that Heinnie is selling is the third generation one.  It appears that the runtime is much better than what they have advertised.

Don't know much about the technical side but a couple of my colleagues have these and swear by them they are bright, durable and easy to use under pressure

Is that a fair price in your opinion?  Bearing in mind that includes postage etc.

It's $27 here, ask them how much shipping is via first class mail maybe you can get it cheaper.

I'm holding out on it because I just don't see why would I want it with all the high powered LED lights I have.

Nitecore D10

The Nitecore D10 is the only light I've bought that is good enough to remove my Novatac EDC 120P from EDC duty.  That is saying something about a $60 Chinese light, let me tell you.

The Nitecore D20 is out now, and includes some improvements that will likely show up in a new version of the D10 that will make it even better.  It has a great pocket clip, and the UI has been slightly improved.

NiteCore D20

I'm not saying that you shouldn't buy the Inova X5 however, because it is a great light for the money.

Oh, and the D20 looks sweet .  I'm not really a fan of 2AA lights though.  They always seem too thin to me.

Honestly, if you don't have a reason to have a brighter light, or a light with better runtime than the D10, there's really no reason to buy the D20.  The brightness and runtime of the D10 on a NiMH rechargeable or Lithium are very good, and the 1AA format is much better for EDC.  I have 2AA lights (Fenix L2D) for the better runtime, mainly because I use them as headlights for my bike.

If you're thinking of buying a D10, you might want to hold out until that sweet pocket clip is available.
