Is it any wonder a guy named Duncan Moore pulls people out of the water for a living?  :D

You are aware that stupidity is almost a requirement if you ever want to know the abilities of your 4x4?
 :hatsoff:
I have a sticking clutch to prove that!

  • Apparently it is possible to have too many tools;)

I had a modified Toyota Landcruiser 80 series that ended up being too capable for my nerves to cope (it had raised suspension, F & R locking diffs, off-road tyres etc).  To really challenge it meant tackling obstacles that were way more dangerous than I was comfortable with.  In the end my trail buddy and I ended up doing "2WD challenges" ie see who could get the furthest up a steepish hill using only 2WD.  When we stopped we could simply select 4WD and drive away.  It was plenty fun without being scary, and it actually helped our 4WDing skills a lot as we couldn't simply rely on all wheel traction, so we got much better at picking lines, feeling for traction and using momentum wisely.

The true skill is using 2WD, due to the farming heritage that long pre-dates readily available 4x4's I've seen some amazing things.

One of the best was two guys in a SWB Nissan pick-up, I believe they were 1600's, they were driving in some of the thickest sand along our coast (Pelican Point) with 2 fat women sitting on the open tailgate.....no problem

I've personally gone dune driving in an older 2x4 doublecab Toyota Hilux KZTE.  The driver is also a farm boy, and frankly if I wasn't there I wouldn't have believed him, friend or not  :salute:

I really do think that we need to stop fighting Natural Selection, as the sheer number of people that are too stupid to live seems to be growing.

Nature seems to be surviving just fine with the Natural Selection Principal, we SHOULD follow!!!

And for the 2017 Darwin Award we have a winner!  (Might as well make the award now since no one is likely to do anything as stupid as that for the rest of the year.   :pok:)

The worst part is that Coast Guard rescue people literally risk their own lives to save these dolts.

I'm not the sort of person to wish harm on people, but I also respect people's choices to harness the full potential of their terminal idiocy so long as no one else is harmed.

This is Eureka North Jetty. I live in Loleta 15 min south. The North Jetty is foolish to go out on year around. Good fishing on the south Jetty though.
