In fact, it seems like a lot of things could be cut from flat stock and made to fit on that post. Ideas?

Fit a 1/4 inch socket drive as found in the SOG PowerLock, perhaps.

I wouldn't want anything with a sharp edge exposed which could cut a thumb when using the Artifact as a pry tool.

Can I please put out the request again for someone with an Artifact to take some picks of it with the whole blade assembly and lock bar removed.  I'm keen to see what it is like with all that removed.  :)

This is the best I can do.  I don't have a torx small enough to remove the lock bar screws. Smallest I have is  an 8.

Does the whole screw come out as well?

Many thanks for the pic!  :tu:

It should come out but would take a little force. Its in there pretty good. Could always drill it out if necessary.

No, was just wondering what it looked like if all the blade holder, lock and pivot were removed to make it UK EDC legal.

Might still look a bit suspect having a prybar in your back pocket anyway :D

Now that is bad news. I like the Shard but am not really into the Artifact...  :cry:

Maybe Def could talk to them about it at the SHOT Show?  ::)

I can and will, that's for sure, but I wouldn't expect much from Gerber.  they have never been terribly receptive in the past.

Man I was waiting on the Shard as well :( Bad news but maybe they will have a stash left from last year at this years Shot Show and Def can talk them out of the whole lot and put MT.O on it err... I mean give them out to everyone here :tu: ::) :D

They just looked so useful wonder why they didn't plan on making them :think: Looks like they would have been easier to manufacture :(

think Gerber decided not to make the Shard because it was kinda close to Atwoods prybar design?     Just throwing that out there.

Nah it is just Gerber being Gerber. No body including them can ever figure out what they are up to.

More likely there was no price point they could market it at.  The Artifact has an MSRP of about $15, and a street price about ten.  The Shard would have to be cheaper, and I don't think anyone wants to get into the under $10 market as there's no money in it.

That would be my guess anyway.

I'd just like to pop in a good word about the Artifact, I got it months ago when they first came out and I have used it quite a few times and it has never let me down. The only problem is the locking blade as its not suitable for the UK but apart from that I cant find much wrong with it. I might one day do similar to what Ben has suggested and make it so it is a prybar with no locking or knife feature.

I don`t know if your cops are any different from ours (the ones that hang out here seem somewhat normal, which admittedly is a relative term on this forum!  :pok:) but I can`t see any cop going to the effort of filling out the paperwork to press charges on someone carrying a blade that`s less than an inch long.  I would imagine, if your judges are anything like ours, the cop probably wouldn`t want the humiliation of standing up in court and pointing out how threatened he was by some private citizen waiting for the bus, minding his or her own business, but with a concealed pry bar in his pocket.

Not that I am advocating anyone breaking the law, but really, it seems to me that it would likely only become an issue if someone made it an issue (such as threatening a busload of nuns) and it was tacked on to a greater charge.  Sure, it is an almost sensible law when looking at knives like Cold Steel`s Vaquero Grande:

But an Artifact?  I can`t see anyone hassling you over that.

I tried a couple diff blade styles this evening in it, but they would not work. The tool is only cut for the ones that come with it. Shame too. I would have loved to have a couple diff options.

The problem is the little slot that it rides in. No cut out bigger than the blade that is supplies. so unless it is a smaller lenght key no go.

I like the Gerber Artifact and have used the pry tool feature several times to pry icy muck from inside the rain gutters while standing atop a ladder. It performed well while chipping the ice from a frozen rural mailbox, too. Scraped mud from my boots after walking in the back field.

No fear of scraping, dirtying up, or abusing the $10 Artifact during these tasks versus using a multitool.

I haven't used the knife, bottle opener, or screwdriver features yet.

I actually ground off the phillips head driver. I just found it too "pokey" when using the bar.

I have carried my Artifact for about 6 months and use it daily.  It is in my pockets along with a Gerber Clutch, EAB and a Swiss tool 6 in 1.

I am almost certain that it's the SwissTech! I got this SwissTech at Wally World for $9 and it's sweet! It's called the Micro Pro, and it has a decently bright LED too..

I just got an Artifact , and own two Atwoods . Atwoods used to be a lot less expensive and far more available . Many of the ones comming out now are like pocket jewelry . To me a prybar is basically expendable ordinance , the Artifact excells in this role . Thanks for the earlier safety tips about the xacto blade . I can see it being quite usefull the odd time . The philips looks pretty useless , and will prolly get ground off eher to long .

If the little fellas are reasonably resistant to breakage , Gerber is onto a winner .

I am currently sporting 3 plasters:

1 x Spyderco Tenacious (nicknamed Vicious around here now);
1 x Gerber Artifact;
1 x Vic Forester.

The Artifact wound definitely bled longest - to it's credit :D
I used to come here a lot.
