I think it looks better than new. I have one myself, I always wanted one when I was in the Army many years ago. I guess I had visions of me bieng the next Rambo or something. Many years past then one day about 7 or 8 years ago I hornswoggled one that my father had picked up somewhere at a gunshow. I have taken it camping a few times, and when I first started running over the road it rode in my Semi as my heavy duty do all fixed blade.

They are heavy, and a bit akward to cut with or carry, but I like mine. I think if Buck had gone a bit differently with it they really would have had something.

To my knowledge they are just guards. They don't work for me because my hand is too big. I have to take the guards off to use the knife.  ::)
Sometimes change is a good thing, other times not so much!

Belive it or not there actually grappling hooks ::)

Throwing a grapple is hard enough, let alone having 7 1/2 inches of cold stlle attached to it :o

So... just don't use around the rest of your unit ('cause you're swinging a friggin' knife around). Especially for disarming improvised explosives ('cause it'd be clumsy as hell)? >:D
Got those frog legs.
