The tools flopping lose in the handle became too much of a liability (I should get Shares in Band-Aid. I'm expecting them to release a One-handed application one for those who have maimed their fingers in my honour) so I've taped in the Blade (I'll just use my SAK for cuttery)

The tension on the knurled fasteners needs to be adjusted upwards. I can understand why the tang doesn't engage the flatspring until a certain level of rotation is reached. Cuts down on tang wear and flatspring interaction, probably prolonging the life of those components. The best idea is to manually tighten the fasteners, should be no more than a half-turn or so. Something easily accomplished with pliers and generally damaging the fasteners isn't an issue with that small an amount of interaction.
The only thing I can think of causing it is I sprayed the whole thing with Inox lube, but that shouldn't make a difference.
Since the beginning of the opening arc relies solely on the dry friction between the implements themselves lubrication of these implements was probably the cause. Testing hypothesis is to thoroughly clean the tool and remove the lubrication and see if the issue still exists. If it does not I would say to relube and tighten the fasteners until the problem is eliminated.
