Migraines.

Who gets them?

How do you deal with the smurfers?

Just had the week of super graines.
I've had them before but this was the first time I got an aura beforehand.
Feeling a little better today but still very rinsed.

If anyone has preventative or recovery advice I'm listening.

I've only ever had one full one and I slept a weekend away as a result.

I'd also be interested in hearing how regular sufferers deal with them.

They are just a part of the monthly cycle. After menopause they should stop

The only thing that helps me is to lie down in a quiet, dark, room as soon as it starts.

I never had one, but I deal with migraines of others all the time. It's all about Rizatriptan (early on aura or the attack) and Topiramate (for prevention).

It's one of the many neurological symptoms I've been suffering lately. The only way I've dealt with them is shut down and wait.

I've had two, both caused by dark chocolate, I don't eat chocolate anymore

I suspect spending too much time on the computer and posting too much can also cause migraines

I have to admit I don't know a lot about migraines. Funnily enough, as I first read this thread a couple of days ago the words started to go blurry and some disappeared. I found it very hard to read, then got a bad headache, followed by nausea (I couldn't eat my dinner, although that may be more related to my cooking skills ).

I think it was caused by reading a screen with a light background and not enough light in the room. Possibly more related to (but not actually) Flicker Vertigo? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flicker_vertigo

I get them, they suck on a level hard to explain.

to deal with them I usually can take 800 Mg of Ibuprofen and go to sleep in a dark cool room.
once in a while the migraine prevents sleep, where I want to sleep, but can't.  those, I have to just drudge through them.

some times I feel better after 1 hour of sleep, some times it is more of a 12 hour ordeal.
If I can help, let me know

I get maybe one a year, but my mother suffers with them almost daily.  Some days she can hardly function, and no pain meds do anything for her. :(

I've suffered from them most of my adolescence and now into adulthood as well. Although the frequency of them has dropped tremendously since my early 20s.
I take pretty much whatever I can get my hands on when they do strike. I
Unfortunately can't tell the early warning signs anymore as so keep a headache of some sort pretty constant. So by the time I realize I have a migraine, it's too late and I'm incapacitated.
My remedy is a dark room with no sounds. Try to sleep it off if I can.

I'm sorry for ya, I've only had one, over a decade ago, while at work.  I suffered thru it and limped home (graveyard shift, driving home with sunglasses on because the street lights were too bright).

Both my ex and current wife have them, only real help for them was a quiet, dark room until it goes away.

Ibuprofen combined with paracetamol and a dark cold room work sometimes for me.
Those cooling pads that you put on the forehead helps lessen the worst pain during the more severe attacks. At least for me.

I can't help myself and ask: proper migraine treatment is available for decades. Why isn't anyone using it?

Tell my doctor that.

Is he a Neurologist or a GP?

See here:

http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/migraine-headache/diagnosis-treatment/dxc-20202471

Topiramate prevents most attacks. If any is experienced, Rizatriptan will stop it, without opening holes in your stomach. Even ergotamine of 50+ years ago works.

Talk to your doctor about triptans and antiepileptics.

I don't get them but a good friend of mine used to get them bad and he swears by Magnesium supplements which have really helped with the frequency and severity of them for him.

I've got a friend who used to get them more often than now.   As a matter of fact last time she's had one was 2012 to be exact.  A change in diet coupled with lifestyle change for her was and is significant.  She began to eat a varied diet as well did more activities.  She also learned to let as much BS go as possible in her very stressed job.  She does have medications tho I don't know what.  The attack in 2012 was brutal from what I remember and it was at that time she knew she needed to be proactive in "eliminating" triggers.

Wishing all you the best.  I rarely have headaches thankfully tho I know from her that migraines are no joke.

I managed to get ahead of the curve today, and slept all afternoon trying to stop one happening. Seems to have done the trick along with the anti-inflammatories. Not altogether with it this evening, but at least I'm up and about and reasonably functional

Got one so bad about a week ago I started throwing up from the shear amount of pain. Had to sleep it off but it took a few days.
