Is it possible to tighten up an old wave?

I found two old model waves at a local pawn shop for $25 each. I was excited about them until I got to handle them. Both had a lot of play between the handle when closed. Also the screwdrivers weren't in the best shape. Needless to say, I didn't get them. However, if there was a way to tighten them up I might get one of them. Is there any way or would it be better to send it off to leatherman for repair if I got one?

I can't remember, do they have a 6 or a 5 star torx screw?

The early Waves have 5 star Torx , I think the new Waves (with bit exchangers) have the more user friendly 6 star torx. It is a bit of a hassle finding bits for 5 star Torx (on original Waves + Sideclips) . Roadie gave a link to a UK Ebay seller who sold a set that covered the 5 star torx.

The only correct way to tighten up older Waves is to replace the plierhead and the plierhead pivots.
Just tightening the 5 pointed Torx screws will leave you with very hard to open blades, without attacking the real problem which is wear.

I've stopped replacing parts on old Waves altogether, when these come in and the customer hasn't stated a certain fondness of the old tool, it gets exchanged for a New Wave.

They are Security Torx bits too, not just plain 5 pointed torx.

And I agree, they are quite hard to come by. I have one bit and its useless until I find another one to put in the other side of the tool
