Skeletool bit driver - very stiff , locking ?
on: October 13, 2008, 06:01:50 AM
Just bought a skeletool CX - Is this behaviour typical for the skeletool or is mine defective:

Bit driver itself , not spare bit slot.

The silver colored catch on the bit driver is very stiff, I have to press very hard on the small grooved end. The catch itself opens only a little, less than 1mm. To insert a bit, the bit driver instructions indicate “press it firmly into the bit driver until the bit driver’s spring engages on the side of the tool bit”.  There doesn’t seem to be a spring action on mine, I have to press the top of the catch (on the bit side , opposite end to grooved) to get the bit to lock into place, the bit is also slightly loose on the slot. I doesn't appear that it will fall out, but not feeling this spring action to secure the bit in place, seems strange. Anyone else have this isue.

My CX driver lock is also stiff...actually I think it's designed that way..I can barely see it move when I press it to put in/remove a bit.

It does lock up really solid though.

Hi Wingnut!

Mine doesn't move very far, but I don't think its intended to.  Lock up on the bit itself is solid. :)

In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

The locking action of the tab is normally activated by a piece of spring steel (part of the frame) that is situated underneath the tab on the right side, seen from above.
However, on quite a few Skeletools this spring has a tendency to work it's way out from under the locking tab, and while you have to look closely to see it, the result is a bad, or even no lockup on the bits.
With the help of a small screwdriver you can ofcourse click the spring back under the locking tab, but it always comes out again so it's best to send it in.
When i get one of these i always replace it for a new one,

Mine is stiff and barely moves, which leads me to believe it is part of the design.
