Flair Help Please!
on: July 20, 2017, 03:09:54 AM
Ok,
I got a LM Flair today from a buddy who also likes LM. Well, it was cheap and overall good condition. BUT! The plain/serrated blade has a broken and bent tip. I may be able to live with that, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to see if anyone has found a source for a replacement blade(pst ii and flair use it) Used or new is cool. I would also be ok with a plain edge as well if I had to. I paid $5 for the Flair, because it is just cool!
It was full of black hardened goo when I got it, but cleaned up quite well! None of the tools appear like they've been used at all. Not even the pliers have wear. This is why my buddy and I did not understand the broken blade! But, it is what it is sometimes. I didn'twant to buy a PST on ebay just to rob the blade. But if it comes down to it I may.
I've kinda wanted one for a while and it is cooler than I thought it would be. A MT for a wine party! This one will open wine......soon! :ahhh

Thanks in advance for any advice or recommendations!

I don't know if I have a spare blade, but SOG blades are a drop in fit in the PST II (Never owned a Flair, but they should be the same).

I do have a spare CE Sog blade, so if you don't find any more local to you (or a proper LM blade), give me a yell and we can sort something out  :tu:

If you want to disassemble a Leatherman without chowdering the pivot screws, I'd recommend a set of wrenches sold by loki-mobile (another user on the forum))

TY for the info! I saw some on ebay, but decided to have a replacement blade first.
I will give him a pm once a blade has been sourced. :)

Loki is in Russia and the shipping time (at least for me in NJ) is 3 (the fastest I received) to 5 weeks (the slowest I received my package).
Just something to keep in mind. Loki also has some replacement parts. https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,64314.msg1217318.html#msg1217318 Availability varies so check with him first.

Someone had posted an Etsy link of spare parts, and I think they had a PST blade in their listing. But I don't see the PST blade for sale now...
  https://www.etsy.com/shop/AustinSchoolHouse?ref=l2-shopheader-name

Now you could contact Leatherman, ask them in advance if they could replace the blade. have heard Leatherman has done that a time or two. On the form there is a section to mark for them to attempt repairs, but if they cannot to send the tool back - as opposed to replacing it with some other tool. My 2¢ :)

Have a look in the MT.O store:

https://store.multitool.org/departments/leatherman-pst-blade-unsharpened-217.html

PST blade for sale. It will fit, I have done the swap. If you want an OEM blade, I can help you with one.

and, get the proper tools from Loki first, it will make the task very easy.

Pete

:woohoo:

Order placed and a very good value might add!

Thank you very much!

And Thank you to all who helped out as well!

I will get in tough with loki as soon as I get paid this weekend!

The PST blade will make the tool functional and let the pliers rest back in the handle. As it is, the bent broke blade stops the handles from closing.
Might not be exactly the right blade, but it will be safe and worthy of being in my LM collection.
It is a first year run Flair(Oct. 99'), so a different blade won't bother me a bit. :hatsoff:

The blade will still be a straight drop in as they are exactly the same except for the blade edges being plain vs. Combo :tu: I personally would rather have the plain edge blade in mine if given the option :salute: Hope the blade swap goes great for you :tu: I have a couple of the 4 way LM wrenches from loki and can tell you that they are an excellent fit and have used them on several of my LM new and old :like: They perform really well

Thank you, poncho!
I am excited about my first LM repair!
I too prefer a plain edge. Easy to sharpen and I never use a serrated blade anyway.
I will get in touch with loki about some wrenches. It will be a good investment, because my MT collection keeps growing.

Blade is on it's way and the parse wrenches are ordered from loki!
In a month or so, I will have an almost perfect flair!
And I'll be able to service all my older LMs. I purchased the four way wrenches.
