What version of Tool Adapter is this?
on: July 31, 2017, 02:30:23 PM
So there are 2 tool adapters.
An older variant that only works on the oldest of models, and a newer version that works on modern day tools.
I can't tell from pictures alone where the differences between these 2 lay.

So, which version is this?:

That is the older Standard Tool Adapter. The Universal Tool Adapter doesn't have the two bumps.

It certainly works on the Mini. Or at least it did on the one I had.

I ditched the Mini for the Sideclip, but kept the tool adaptor  :tu:

Great product! I have the one without the bumps, purchased it in 2000 for $29.95 and still using it almost everyday at work. I think the main reason why Leatherman discontinue these great adapters is because first, they can be use with different brand of multi-tools plus you can use regular bit out of your tool box, and second, they were no $$ makers for Leatherman since these adapters last forever, so they decided to replace it with the flimsy flat bit sets, the more bit you brake the more bit you buy  ::)

I have one of the older models.
It works with the Spirit nicely, and many other MTs from other brands.
It's sturdy and quite useful. i find them for 20-25 euros every week on a popular second hand website in my country, where they also sell Swisstools for 50-60 Euros and Swisschamps for 35-40, etc.

You can find very nice deals there.
My toys:

MTs: Surge (2x), Skeletool CX, Rebar, Blast, Fuse, Micra, Squirt (3x), Wave, Crunch, Mini, Spirit (2x), Pro Scout, MP700 (2x), Diesel, Powerlock, PowerPlier (2x), PocketPowerPlier, Blacktip , ST6 (2x), 5WR, A100

SAKs: Bantam, Executive, Ambassador, Minichamp, Classic Alox, Champion, Farmer, Explorer, Swisschamp, Golf Tool, Wenger Champ, EVO 52, Pocket Tool Chest

Had you posted this 3 days earlier...

They seldomly pop up on our second hand site.
Last week one popped up but the details said "pickup only".
It was in the village where I went camping so that was quite easy. Didn't know if it would fit my Spirit at home though :bnghd:
Which is where I am again now

Guess what I found at a very local (and small) outdoor shop, only about an 8 km drive away from my door ...  :pok:

Yep, a brand new "old style" tool adapter, sitting in a display cabinet for about 19 years, waiting for me to come along and pick it up  :D.  I guess the 0598 on the side is a date code, right ?

Best part, I asked how much it costed and the guy from the store started looking through an old stock catalogue he had, found a page with the Tool Adapter, a bit extender and the bit kit on it, and said 26,95 Euro.  About ten minutes later when I was paying for it (and for the Lundhags hiking trousers that I bought, BEST HIKING PANTS EVER, in my humble opinion) he noticed that he had made a mistake, and that the Tool Adapter costed like 42,95 Euro, but since it had been lying there for so long, I could have it for 26,95 Euro  :D.
