Can you remove the cross and shield inlay from a Vic celidor?

Can it be done?
If so, how?

Yes you can. The shield/cross is usable, but the scales will have at least a recess in then where it was. Or might be quite trashed

I have removed some by picking away at the edge with a sharp blade and then gently prying under the exposed edge.

With some you can push them out through a hole in the back of the scales.

I just placed custom wooden scales on a SAK and would like to add the shield.

I've got a set of completely trashed plus scales that are only good for the inlay.

So I cut away some material and pry underneath it?
How much should I cut? In other words, how thick is the inlay?

How do I attach it to the new scales now?
Glueing with alot of precision and patience?

Maybe carve a little into the scales, so as the logo would be flush with the surface?...

 

It's a very delicate thing to do, it might damage the scales.

I am not planning on using any varnish though.
The wood is extremely tough and has a nice goldenlike glow to it thanks to the finish with mineral oil.

Carving it in is not something I'm willing to risk with these scales so it would basicaly be glued on and that's it.

Ok, for some reason, when I'm doing a project, I can NEVER await the answers before moving on.

I used a liquid seconds glue.
I applied it to the back of the inlay using a jewelers loupe, tweezers and a toothpick.

Downside: it has to be JUST right on first try
The logo isn't placed 100% to my liking, but then again, it doesn't look to shabby either.
Might need a layer of parket varnish to keep it better in place and smooth after all.

I checked the can and it states that it should be applied by brush.

I tested paper tape to cover the rest of the knife which will work.

The can also states that the varnish is ready for a second layer after 2 hours and a smooth sanding.
It's dried to full hardness within 24 hours.

If I start now, I can do the second layer at 7pm, but I need to be somewhere by 7h30pm. Tomorrow is a busy day with little to no time for this.
So I'll have to wait untill monday, when my girlfriend is off to work and I can do whatever I want, whenever I want

I do have a more embossed effect, but then again, my glue become rock solid in a matter of seconds.
2 component glue attaches really strong but usualy takes a few minutes to harden out completely, which is more usefull in this application.
