I've readithe manual on the various Victorniox and leatherman tools and how they should be used.  I'm trying to learn new uses for tools that I haven't thought about.  What have been some of yours? For example I recently learned that people use the awl for fire starting, the cork screw for untying tough knots, and maybe this is common knowlege for most but I used my PST pliers to pull pots out of a campfire.  Please provide some stories examples.  Maybe we can all learn new ways of doing things with our multi that we havent thought of before.  Thanks

I once had only 1 screwdriver at hand.
I needed to unroll a large cable roll but had no holder to put the roll on.

My collegue pulled the cable, why I held the roll up by placing a screwdriver in at one and, my Waiter's combotool in the other.

I've used the pliers of various multitools to pull out unsightly nose hairs. I've found the compound leverage of the SOG pliers works best for this task.

I've used the small driver on a PST II to remove the triangle screws on a power adapter, and the wood saw of a Vic as a cray comb on my dog (some saws and grooming blades on knives have been cut identically, just several, really fine and long serrations (cut most of the way from spine to edge).  The Vic hook has carried hay bales, and the bottle opener has removed, the outer, free spinning cap from childproof caps.

Alan K, now that you mention it, I'm sure i've used the scissors on my Sak to do a quick trim myself :)

I also recently used the hook to remove some playdow stuck in a doll's mouth for my daughter.

Is this thread only meant for success stories or is potentially or actually destructive use also covered?

I have an example of the latter. A little bit embarrassing. Snapped the blade of my PST when I attempted to pry a difficult-to-reach staple out of some wood

I forget now if it was the Gerber MP or LM Wave but I've magnetized the screwdriver blade to pick up a very small screw and align it in the hole when I was reassembling a radio.

You could probably do the same with the pliers but I've never tried.

Embarrassing but I've used the Gerber Shard pry notch to cut a jagged corner of my thumbnail.  I was in the airport and had nothing else I could use. Yeah my nails are disgusting.

I used a Kick(any plier tool would do) and a Victorinox bottle opener working in tandem to pull out a small-medium size nail sticking out of a bit of wood.
I should whip up a demo pic.

I should have gotten a claw hammer out of the shed a few metres away, but I was curious.  ::)

If anyone's used a corkscrew to cure constipation, please don't bother with the pics. Thanks  :salute:

I've used the pliars on my Swisstool along with a crescent wrench to cut the steal band on shippiing crates.  Close down the wrench on one side of the band then grip the other side with the ST pliars touching the wrench and twist the two in opposite directions and they cut the steal band like Vic Scissors through news print.

Vic can opener for opening for opening walnuts.
Just insert the tip in to the crack between the two shells at the blunt end of the nut, twist, and you got 2 perfect halves.
And you already have the proper tool at hand to get the nutty contents out of them.  :climber:

Another one here using pliers for getting pots/food out of campfires! Pliers also indispensable for removing tent pegs.

Pliers also indispensable for removing tent pegs.

I have used a LM Crunch to remove a "pin shaped" peg that was driven through an underground root (not by me).  Without locking pliers (and considerable strength) that peg (and the gazebo it was holding) was going to stay there for a very long time.  I don't think anything else besides locking pliers could have twisted and pulled hard enough at the same time.

Used the backside Awl on my mechanic and Spartan to cut up some tin cans to make a little camp stove.
Tried the can opener but it had a hard time dealing with the raised portions. The awl made quick work of it though.

Speaking of turning cans into stoves... I made one of Lynn's wood gas stoves a few weeks ago.  It burns with no smoke once it gets going.  :like:
They are very cool and easy to make if you understand the instructions.  :tu:

The Crunch was my first Leatherman and my first quality multi tool.  In many ways, it is still my favorite.      :like:

I wish I had a picture to share but I was going to say that a few people have mentioned that they use their pliers to pull hot cookware off the campfire.  If you use a Crunch you can actually just leave the tool connected and make a temporary pot handle as you are serving the food, moving it around the table, etc.     :drink:

Everyone has so far been too polite to comment this I guess. The intricacies of the English language are sometimes quite baffling... Indeed, why would a latin-derived word have a negative declination from the more nordic influences, one may logically ask? Never mind, sorry, back to the topic, shall we?
