Good info for when I am finaly able to get my own.  Yes I am impressed enough to get one even at only 1/3rd of the way through  the challenge.  Still don't think it will replace my Swisstool just compliment it.

Day 11 of 30

Great pics guys :salute: I still would pic the Surge over the Swisstool I guess  Just depends on what you get use to I guess :D The OHO blade are very nice and the bit driver and a great addition to any MT, especially with the bit extender :like: Few more days on this challenge for me but I may still carry the Surge some and will post in here when I do while the challenge is still going :salute: :tu:

The one hand open, bit driver and changable saw/ file are VERY nice on the Surge,  but so far I still prefer the LARGER tool set and more streamline engineering of the Swisstool.  I find with the longer reach of the built in tools of the Swisstool I would rearly need the bit extender but it is very well designed and usefull.
I also prefer a dedicated wood saw to a serated knife blade, but like the agressive and interhangable file / saw of the Surge.  I guess I'm saying both are excelent tools capable of almost all the same jobs.  They just go about it in very different ways.  So Ponch, I agree "Just depends on what you get used to I guess :D"

Since I posted the pic yesterday (just not in this particular thread) I might still be considered in with the challenge

Start a new thread and post a photo of the multitool for fifteen (15) consecutive days.

But one could also argue that I was never eligible to begin with since I didn't start the thread :ahhh ???

You can even click on the pics to see when it was taken to prove my innocence

But as far as I am concerned PONCHO, your still in....if you DON'T QUIT!!!!!

It is tough making sure you get that post in.  That's why I'm hoping some one ( :pok: G-Man ?) else will pick up the second 15 days of the challenge.  It helps when others are in it too.
I must say I feel ya Ponch  :salute:,  I think after 4 challenges 2 of them at the same time (only one for credit though) thats equal to 120 days streight, I'm almost challenged out too.  :bnghd:
I guess ZOID will have to be Judge and Jurry for you Ponch.

I really like that you normally use a swisstool and still trying out life with bits and bit holder.. That is a big deal breaker in my mind. I have a 1 gen wave but no interest in the new one because of the bit

It's not failure if you learn something from it

The bits are a love/hate thing I believe  You either love them or hate them :D I always keep a bit card with me and if I have a LM with dedicated Phillips driver then I use the bit adapter with the bits

The issue I have with the Swisstool is when the drivers are worn and close to useless, you can't just pop a new bit in and go about your business. The Swisstool does have a nice reach on the drivers, but you have to send it back to Vic to have it repaired.
But, like I've said before,  it is like comparing apples and oranges. The Swisstool and Surge do not belong in the same class of MTs. The Swisstool is closer to a supertool original/200 if anything, regarding the toolset and driver reach.
The Surge really doesn't have a comparable Victorinox pliar based tool, and vise versa.

Day 11 and 12 being in an above post now

I am on Day 13 of 15 now and have carried 1 of the 2 Surges I have everyday of the challenge so far and still like the newer style Surge better of the 2 :salute: I admit I like the dedicated saw and file but the blade exchanger has it pluses as well :tu: I like being able to have the file off the MT to get into hard to reach or impossible to reach places that otherwise wouldn't be able to be filed if it was on the handle :ahhh also the Surge can be sharpened out in the field of you have the file in the sheath with the tool :like:

Good stuff guys.  Poncho, I must admitt to liking the blade exchanger for the file/ hacksaw for the very reasons you stated.  I would prefer a dedicated wood saw though.  A good wood saw limited in size by inclusion in a multitool should last for many years with little to no significant wear if used properly.

Now to today's photo...
We finaly got to rebuild that slicer.   OOOOO SLICER GUTS>>>>
These are actualy kind'a fun.   :tu:
Lots of little parts to keep up with and lots of mechanical things going on in one of these.
Hay Steve how about taking Pocho's place when he  :pok: abandons me.  :twak:

OK Douglas! I am in for the rest of the month! Gonna edc this bad boy to help keep up the morale!
I worked in my shop all day, so please ignore the dirty hands. That was after soap and water. Need a degreaser and scour pad. :)
This is going to be tough to get used too. I've been using vintage MTs for a week now. Nothing even remotely like the surge. :ahhh
I'll jist pretend it is a heavy and bigger wave (my current preferred edc).
Having had used the SwissTool a month, maybe I can see things the way you do, Douglas!
Here goes nothing!

Thank you, sir!
Only problem now. Not shearing bolts, nuts, and screws off while applying a Surge of force on them! The Surge is a truly serious contender for heaviest duty MT. But, it lacks fineness(like the SwissTool). If LM would put the finer toothed ST300 pliars on the Surge, then it would be even better. The coarse Surge pliar teeth leave rough tool marks if not careful. I'm ready for the challenge though! :viking:

I did not realize that.
Thanks Poncho!
I just looked and my 2005 wave has fine teeth and my newer on has coarse. What was LM thinking?
This adds a whole new dimension to the pliar head discussions.
My ST300 is a bit older as well. I guess when my worn out st200 gets sent in, I will receive a coarse tooth st300. :poh:

Anyway, I got the Surge on the belt today to give it some real use. I have babied it since I got it. Why? Don't know. It just looks so good without scratches. Haha But, it is time to try it out for real!  :viking:
