Dumb@$$ Father-inlaw

Hey my father in law came up here from florida and usually when he is up here I perform maintence on his original Leatherman Wave. Well today he shows me that he snapped the main blade off it using it as a darn pry bar!

Sometimes he drives me crazy I tell ya! So, what can I do for him to remedy the problem? Will Leatherman be able to fix it for him? I know he has defintaly voided his warrantee and if Leatherman can fix it, it will cost him the amount for a new blade. What you guys think??

I have never broken a blade or anything.. But, I have sent some beat up tools for warranty work and they come back in great condition. I would send it in, and the worse that could happen is they charge a very small fee!

Doesn't he know the large flathead is the prybar?!?

He's lucky it didn't snap off and fly into someone..

I'd send it back to Leatherman..

Same thing happened to a buddy of mine a couple of years ago. Sent it in to Leatherman and got it fixed at no cost without a problem. I would send it to Leatherman if I were you.

I would contact one of our "special" friends at Leatherman and discuss the problem with them first. My guess is they will look after you, but I would make a point of asking first to avoid any potential problems down the line.

Is it a New Wave or an old one?

I sent this guy in for repair back in 2003 (before it was the Old Wave

) with a broken blade with an explanation and an offer to be billed for repairs. They sent me back a brand new tool, no cost to me other than the original shipping charge.

If he broke only the tip like the one on spoon's picture you could grid it and reshape the tip you could end up with a smaller workable blade.

I broke the blade in half on my Charge a few months ago. I was not prying, but....well.....long story. Anyway, I just mailed it in and got it back very quickly with a new blade. No questions asked.

Also, I beat the hell out of my first Charge remodeling my bathroom. Sent it in for a "tune up" and got back a new tool (the one mentioned above). Again, no questions asked.

He said he was just prying something with it like he has for the past 5 years!! ACK! my heart sank, I said you idiot

that's what pliers are for! This is an original wave, it was my "first" multitool, I traded him for a Swisstool at least five years ago. Def has my other original. I will get in contact with LM, should not be a problem I am sure.

Good question. I was trying to cut out the caulk from around a window I was taking out. In retrospect, I must have been putting ALOT of lateral pressure in the blade (ok, maybe it was a bit of a pry) and it snapped. Totally my fault, not the tool's. I have beat the living crap out of my Charge (which serves as an underling beater blade to my Sebenza) and it does not blink. If I HAD to carry just ONE, I would have to go with the Charge since the blade can do 75%-85% of the what the Sebenza blade can do, while the Sebenza can do 0% of what the rest of the tools on the Charge can do. Does that make any sense?

Just send it in to Leatherman, they will replace the blade with a new one and then send it back to you. No need to ask for the bill, they won't quibble... their warranty is top notch
