Pawn Shop Haul.
on: January 04, 2018, 05:39:08 AM
I found a few interesting items when I visited another local Pawn Shop that I rarely frequent because it is at the other end of town. When I asked to see their multi-tools, they brought out quite a few, many of which were the cheapest of the cheap PST clones. When I asked why they had so many, the proprietor told me he has an inside with the local border guards, meaning many of these are confiscated...interesting.

Most of these still need cleaning.

First find, a nice Leatherman Super Tool 200.

A Wenger Backpacker II.

This weird fishing line clipper tool.

Leatherman Juice Xe6 purple.

Ontario Mine Rescue Advertising multi-tool.

Gerber EAB Lite.

Cass XX Marlin Spike Knife.

A little Leatherman information.

Nice!

I've had some good luck at pawn shops in the last few days myself.

What did you pay for that PST clone, and is the saw on it any good?

I paid 9 bucks for it. I have not used the saw to try it out. so I can't tell you how well the saw will work. It does appear to be rather thinner then most examples found on multi-tools however.

Confiscated then sold to a pawn shop  ???
That sounds like an interesting way for the border guards to make a few bucks.
I wonder why they were confiscated?

That last knife is a Canadian Navy Knife, made either by Case themselves during WWII (and before), or by Metal Stampings Limited a subsidiary of Case in Nova Scotia during the 1950s. Broken backsprings seems to be an issue that heavily plagues these knives, usually close to the marlinspike, mine has the blade spring cracked (not fully broken), at the center pin closest to the marlinspike. I don't know what caused it--my guess is that it was a combination of over-hardened springs and abuse. They aren't that easy to find, especially at decent prices--mine was $15.

Great score!
