Does anybody
on: November 20, 2008, 08:05:41 AM
know if Leatherman has won any design prizes throughout the years?
Looking closely at my new Wave I can't stop thinking that the way it
was put together is pure genius.

I can't recall seeing any interviews or comments from the designers on the web, why is this?
Very secretive or then I can't Google hard enough?  ???

Leatherman

More than twenty years after finding its first customer in 1983, Leatherman Tool Group remains the world leader in quality multi-purpose tools. The company now offers 28 multi-tool and folding knife models from its factory in Portland, Oregon, each one adhering to Tim Leatherman's standards for quality, durability, and attention to detail (after all, it's his name on the tool).

Leatherman tools are consistently rated the top in their class by leading publications including: I.D. Magazine 2002 "Design Distinction" award for Juice, Outdoor Photographer 2000: Editors' Choice award for the Crunch; Backpacker 1997: Editors' Choice Award for the Micra; Land Rover Owner 1997: "Best Buy" for the original PST. The Leatherman Wave also received the 2004 IWA International Multi-tool of they Year award.

While outdoor enthusiasts account for a large portion of Leatherman's market, the tools are also popular among electricians, boaters, stagehands, musicians, farmers, gardeners, do-it-yourselfers, and emergency services personnel. Today, more than 36 million Leatherman tools can be found in pockets, tool belts, tackle boxes, and glove compartments in more than 80 countries across the globe

They have won awards all over, but the awards I would think while nice are kinda secondary to what they have accomplished.  Leatherman has actually become a Generic name now for the tools. Just like Jaccuzzi, and several other companies out there. Soo much immitation is flattering.
