Leatherman Freestyle
on: December 19, 2007, 01:01:05 AM
Hi All,

If you do a Google search, you'll find several retailers offering the Leatherman Freestyle at very attractive prices, but no pictures or info on what it will contain, with delivery in December.

I have it from a very reliable source that we'll see the Freestyle (perhaps a lower cost version of the Skeletool) in May of 2008.

Best - Joe

Yeah, I'd watch out for those dealers.  The info I have is the same as yours- I'd hate to buy a tool today that I won't see for over 5 months.   >:(

Is a leatherman freestyle a skeletool? Or are they different things?

my understanding is it's different and the same tool, just a smaller version. "Pitcher or glass of beer"
or across the pond they might say; "Gallon or pint of beer?!"

I don't think it will be a smaller version- not from what I have read.  I think it will be an economy type version, at least judging by the price.  Both versions of the Skeletool are using some higher end materials while the Freestyle will likely be more standard steels etc.

I just received my 2008 Price list for Leatherman.

the Freestyle will be available to Australians in May 08, at a RRP of around $120.

No pictures were provided, so I can't add anything more than that,

(Skeletool avail. Feb @ 2x the price)

Also available in 08 are 25th Anniversary Waves and Charges, and a new hunting knife.

I wonder if I'm breaking any of the fine print in my reseller contract for talking to the public?

What does the Skeletool CX have for a few bucks more that the original does not?

it has some special Tungesten coating I believe and a 154cm blade steel knife. (I think) My Uncle who came today from California tried to tell my that the Skeletool which he called the Leatherman ' Lite' was out already just because he saw it in a magazine!

any word on the blades, serrated or not to be serrated?! I've heard one or more "with" serrations, though the people I talk to want Plain Edge.

            Good question,and I'm not a big fan of combo edges,except as they're done on Vic's 111mm series.

$1 Oz = $0.86 US

Unfortunately, the LM prices were probably set back when we were doing about $0.60 US or somesuch.

I'll compare my '08 and '07 prices tomorrow, but I doubt I'm making any savings, regardless of Currency rates.

I'm not opposed to combo blades, and I'm keen to try out this Serrations to the tip, plain to the base idea from Vic.

the freestyle is going to be stainless from what I am reading on the www.  the skeletools are partially aluminum and carbon fiber so I would guess that the freestyle will not be as light as the others.

I compared Prices today - Several LMen - Waves, Charges, etc are down by around 10% - now while these changes are unlikely to have an immediate effect, as we all bought our current stock at the old price - eventually into the new year any keen Australian shoppers may notice some savings on their LM retail therapy. :)

(and I feel stupid, as I just did a buy-up before Christmas so I'd have plenty to sell well into Janurary/Feburary)

They say they are still going to release it.  I think they want to make sure they don't have any issues getting it out like they did with the Skeletool, so they are holding off releasing it until it's ready and they can support it.
