  • What's the matter, kid? Don't ya like clowns?
My wife has always been one to carry a knife even before we met given her line of work. Sadly like many people out there she carried a piece of junk knife.  Once we met and started to get to know each other better I gifted her a Spyderco Resilience. She absolutely loved it and realized what a better quality knife really is and consist of. From then on she started to see more of my knife and multitool collection and slowly gained more interest. I gifted her more things like a Leatherman Micra and a SOG folder. I noticed she doesn’t really care much for maintaining her knives which leads to rust and the like. She uses her folders for anything and everything including food. I watched her cut a apple and just wipe the blade on her pants and put it back in her pocket. I explained to her about maintaining her tools obviously but when she is working there is no way of doing this. This led me to giving her a Spyderco a Salt 1 as given her needs I figured this would be a great option to keep her from ruining her knife. That has been working out very well for her. Fast forward to a few nights ago. I got my Surge back from warranty and was showing her the tool and it’s features which she was very much interested in. She actually said she wants a MT and asked me for my Surge....... Don’t get me wrong, I love my wife and would do anything for her but I politely told her the Surge is daddy’s toy and it’s staying that way!   :D  She fought me on that one but I introduced her to a few other options I have and ended up giving her my modded Wingman. Her only real requirements were a smaller MT and a pocket clip. The modded Wingman checked both those boxes and if she ruins it or loses it it’s not a huge deal. She was so happy I gave it to her and the look on her face made my day. I just love when I see people realize the importance of a MT and all it’s uses in our day to day lives. I never thought I could love my wife any more than I already do but when she converted to a daily MT carrier that love grew even more.  :D

I've seen the same behavior and pattern with my family and friends (careless use and maintenance) so I'm sure that if i gifted any of them a folding knife, it would be a Salt out of necessity   :D
