What deep pocket carry clip for Pacific Salt?
on: July 01, 2018, 04:36:16 AM
I have looked a long time at some of the deep pocket carry clips that some of you guys have on your folders and I would very much like some opinions and options on some deep pocket carry clips that would fit my Spyderco Pacific Salt  Does Spyderco make them or will I have to go aftermarket or other brand

Thanks in advance for any and all help guys  :like:

Here is a pic of it so you guys will know what type of clip is needed :tu: :tu:

Nonclip side

Apparently I haven't taken any pic of the clip side  So hopefully the non clip side is enough to go on ::) :D

I think you’re going to have to rig one up. Google searches came up with zilch...

Well, Poncho, we have a situation here  :ahhh

The Pacific Salt uses the same handle design as the Endura 3, which was discontinued years ago. The current iteration is the Endura 4, which has a different shaped handle and a different clip configuration (fixed with 3 small screws to the handle, instead of the Barrel Bolt clip that the Pacific and Endura 3 had)

Same happens with the Salt I, which uses the Delica 3 handle and not the one of the Delica 4  :tu:

From now on the newer Salts are all going to have the 3-screw clip system in the future, reason why I don't want to purchase new Salts, and I prefer the older ones.  :pok:

Back then when the Endura(Delica 3 generation was popular there was not a huge market for deep carry clips, and the temporary glory and success they've been having was not ven a thing back then, so few carry clips (if any) were available for that configuration (Barrel Bolt)

When the Endura/Delica changed handles from the Pacific/Salt style, the deep carry clip became way more popular and other brands started to use 3 screw clip mountings, thus most of the new deep carry clips (aftermarket and brand options alike) were designed for that 3 screw configuration and not the one from the older Enduras, Delicas and the Salts  :P

all that is to say that the Salts (Pacific/Salt/Tasman/etc.) do not have deep carry clips available from Spyderco or other makers/brands, sadly, and you'd have to do one yourself  :-[

I am not 100% sure that there aren't any deep carry Barrel Bolt clips  ???, but will do my research and post back afterwards here  :salute:

For deep carry, I remove the clips altogether.

I really don't like clips, although I do use them on some knives.

However, I've never met a knife that didn't feel better in hand or in actual use when it's clip was removed.

Sorry, rant over.

I can only think of a solution to this, other than making your own clip,
but it's never been done before (that I know of)... :ahhh

you could bend the clip 180º so that it becomes deep carry (bend it over completely), but that entails a high risk of stress fracture of the metal and snapping the clip  :P

Also, some clips from the salts (the first years of production) were stainless steel (310 or 340 I believe) but modern production Salts have Titanium clips so I don't know how flexible is Titanium and how much can you bend it before it breaks

Sorry I couldn't help you much there
