Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain RIP

Two celebrity suicides this week, both of whom have had a major impact on Megan. I can't tell you the number of Kate Spade designed products that Megan has around the house, from phone cases to lamps, nor can I tell you how many Anthony Bourdain cookbooks she has. She is a huge fan of his various shows, and has even seen him talk live, having driven to a town a few hours away to attend.

RIP to two people who have had a great impact on Megan.

Sad sad news. I wasn't aware of Kate Spade but loved Anthony Bourdains 'Kitchen Confidential' and have read it several times. Growing up in and around kitchens like he did I identified with a lot of what he said.

A bit of trivia for you... Kate Spade was married to Comedian David Spade's brother. I learned about that on a celebrity roast a while back, although I don't recall which roast it was.

And Anthony Bourdain was recently embroiled in a controversy, at least in Canada after he aired an episode where he visited Newfoundland. This was of course hugely popular in Canada, right up until he used the word "Newfie" to describe the people of Newfoundland, which even I didn't know was apparently an offensive term. I have met a lot of Newfies all over Canada (their biggest export is people, and I can just about guarantee that roughly 2 in 5 people you meet anywhere in Canada will be Newfies) and none of them ever objected to being called Newfies, and just about all of them considered it a badge of honor. If anyone here is offended by my use of the term, feel free to take it up with our complaints department, because I have rarely (if ever) met a Newfie that I didn't get along with. Of course, Tony then followed up on Twitter with something like "I only called them that because that's what the Frenchies (referring to his friends from Montreal who were also in the episode) call them."

Needless to say, the Frenchies (not his friends) then got all up in arms about that....

Silly, pointless bits of info about each one to help celebrate their lives.

Never recall hearing of them before, but the fact that they both appear to have committed suicide says a lot about how happy they really were with their life, money, fame, family...

Hey, I'm sorry for Megan's loss.

I was never into handbags, but I recognized the name right away. Kate clearly made a big impact on many people.

I really enjoyed Bourdain's wry sense of humor and his apparent love for the various peoples of the world, along with their food traditions. I loved his advocacy for good food made with care. I think the world lost an eloquent and much needed voice.

RIP Bourdain, I recently had watched almost all the "Parts Unknown" episodes on Netflix and he was a really great, funny and interesting guy. He had a very dark past but seemed to have beaten his demons, so I'm kinda shocked, but not many people have lived a more full and interesting life as he did

At Best Buy we had tons of merchandise with Kate Spades designs. Every time a new Iphone came out we had to overhaul the Kate Spade section of phone covers. Always saw the name, just never really put into thought who she was.

My wife woke me up this morning saying she heard ole Tony died. I watched his travel culinary show for years. Always entertaining, well versed with that sarcasm I loved. Sad to see him go out on top like that .
