Tool test
on: August 19, 2018, 06:30:59 PM
So idea of this topic came when i was testing out my new SuperTool 300. So heres bit test results.
Test results

1.Saw
And the winner is SuperTool300 and reason for that is comfort. All saws did good in sawing test but handling Surge and Wave was bit uncomfort cause OHO blades little sticks out from handle so it felt nasty when keeping grip of it and only reason why OG ST wasnt sharing first place was that i felt that it will slip out of my hand when sawing

Test nro. 2

2.Serrated blade
Well using serrated blade was bit tough race against Surge and ST300 and results is draw. My Wave and OG ST wasnt giving good result cause im lazy to sharpen them so race was mainly against ST300 and Surge.

Both did cut rope well and also cutting wood and both felt comfort and sharp to use so i decide to call this draw between Surge and ST300

Test number 3

3. File

So mainly used wood file to compare result since theres no diamond file in OG ST and ST300. Results was that perfomance and effiency using file and winner is ST300 cause it has best wood file its long and solid and using it felt most comfort in use.

Test number 4

4. Blade
Using blade was bit tricky between these tools. Winner of this category goes to Wave. ST300 blade is extra ordinery good and it has straight blade like OG ST. Surge and Wave has bit curve blade compared to STs. Surge blade is good but sometimes just way too large like STs blades so most flexibility blade is Waves blade.
Used blades to cut wood, rope, paper, plastic and some silicone. And best result came using Wave blade

More test results tomorrow when i have test all tools bit more

This reiterates why I prefer outside opening/one-handed opening tools. You lose so much tool edge on that corner otherwise!

To correct for the inside opening blade to be fully exposed for cutting, I unfold the handle and leave the pliers head tucked.  The ST300 is large enough for ample grip. and allows the full blade to be used for cutting, whittling, scraping...

Also, with either screw driver blade extended, the unfolded handle allows for added torque to break free a stubborn screw, either Phillips or slotted.
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

I wouldnt do that, maybe only for blade but not for adding more torque to philips, thats how i have broked my Waves handle. It add more torque to exsmple for philips head and maybe break free stubborn screw but also adds torque to handle and it may break down easily.
OHO blades are good but luckily ST300 has enough long blade so i dont mind losing little edge because corner and like LC said if needed whole blade edge to use which happens very rarely. Picture shows that i can use whole blade edge to carve wood

Test number 5

5.Can opener / wire stripper

This win goes only easiness and comfort to use and thats ST300. Every tool did their job like suppose to open cans and wire stripping. Surge has same can opener as ST300.
I gotta say this wasnt fair test to Wave cause i have grinded it bit but wire stripping was same as others and comfort takes win

Test number 6

6. Phillips
Well this test wasnt equal to all tools but still did test with regular bits what came to Surge and Wave. Wave and Surge has advantage on this caus changeable heads and extendable.

But i still choose winner ST300 it has longest and most solid Phillips head between these.
Even if you use extender on Wave and Surge. Surge&Wave with extender cannot fit same places as ST300 phillips head, cause its slimmer than extender and you can use more force on ST300 than Surge and Wave. But other hand Wave and Surge has more wider selection of phillips head than STs.

Test number 7

7. Flat Heads

Well this category has advantage on Surge and Wave but if we talk only on solid flatheads winner is OG ST cause it has widest range solid flat heads it has smallest solid flathead and largest flathead is enough large to complete job. But then if we talk overall including bits then win goes to Wave cause changeable flatheads it has regular bitdriver and small bitdriver and it has widest range.

Test number 8

8. Awl
This was fun category to test and winner is ST300.
Surge and ST300 has same awl but id still prefer using ST300. Reason for that is comfort to use ST300 just was better held in hand than Surge.
OG ST has diffrent kind awl and it did do job good as ST300 and Surge.
Wave doesnt really have own awl but you can use scissor to awl. Wave awl made smallest hole in wood but it recommed that you dont use it anything hard, it can twist and break easily if used too much force and then theres no scissors anymore on your Wave so caution when using it to make holes

Test number 9

9. Pliers / Cutters

Winner is obvious and its ST300 and reason for that is handles. It has changeable cutters what Wave and OG ST doesnt have, those two has really good cutters and needlenose pliers but not good enough take win.
Surge has same Pliers as ST300 but really good advantage ST300 is handles. With Surge it very easy to pinch yourself whit that handle and OHO desing.

I used cutters to cut nails and wires.
Used pliers to grab things and screw some nuts and bolts.

And last test

10. Overall
Well this was quite difficult category to determine winner. It deeply depends on your needs but if we talk overall useability win goes to Wave cause it has allmost everything you may need.
Bitdriver large and small gives wide range of heads to use.
Size of it, it easy to carry in pocket.
OHO blades, easy and fast acces to blades, file and saw.
Only missing thing is awl.

But in the other hand win goes to Surge if needed sturdier tool and if needed more selection saws Surge is choice. It has large bit driver but lacks small bit drives but has awl instead of it.
It has OHO blades, scissors and file/saw holder.

If we talk about comfortness to use win goes to OG ST cause it slim, has good selection of tools and blades but lacks changeable cutters.

Last but not least winner is ST300 it has updated tools of OG ST and has  much sturdier and it feels better in hand.

So if we count points winner for this category is SuperTool 300.
But i would pair something with ST300 and that is Wave cause its easy to pocket carry and its flexible tool so i would say best combination for everyday use is ST300 + Wave.(tho also ST300 could go with SAKs but that way diffrent thing than comparing Leathermans)

I make new review when i get my hands on Rebar

I broked it first but i decided to reuse it rather than replace it cause i needed scraper/awl in my Wave. When it broked down i didnt have Surge or other where was awl and i dont have much use for can opener since like in this test showed me these are pretty awlful to use comparing dedicated can opener. Also that desing on my Waves can opener it also act as  packet opener.

Well done.  Its tests like these that I appreciate.  The OHO blades for some can cause discomfort on tools like the Surge and Wave.  The handles on the ST300 and Rebar certainly solve a lot of that.  I agree the Surges blade exchanger really is a nice feature if you have a wide range of material to cut.  The addition of the bit holder widens the ability to tackle a lot of different screws.
