The Muffin Man was just plain Gerald Clifford before changing his diet to cake. Just cake, predominantly muffins. His friends and family started to call him the Muffin Man. His neighbour, Frank Zappa, felt moved to write the song about him as a tribute after Gerald unfortunately died from cake.

As for himself, seeing Gerald during his last few days, being fed cake intravenously, put Frank off cake forever and prompted him to add a warning on all of his consequent albums about the dangers of a purely cake diet. You can tell on his later albums that he misses the sweet sweetness offered by a nice piece of cake - they are a bitter listen.

Oooo, I'm sooooooo scared. Don't forget I was practising my Karate moves for ages last night. I'm also extra strong because I had two lunches today and will be watching a Bruce Lee film after tea tonight. It's up to you but I wouldn't want to start a fight with me at the moment.
