Busy day for the 119.  Unfortunately I'm limited to carrying it while I'm out here in the sticks with the way the ordinance is written, but I typically avoid town anyway!  I'm looking forward to putting it to work in the kitchen to see if it does as well as it's folding brother, the mighty 110.
Understand that  :like: :tu:

So tonight is the night for sewing,

(Image removed from quote.)

I don't have one of those fork things so i just stole one from the kitchen, i figured it would be a good hole distance marker if nothing else, i then used the awl to poke all way through, the awl was a screwdriver a couple of hours ago but i ground it down to a point as i couldn't find mine

(Image removed from quote.)

All ready to sew, looks rough as hell but it's not like i'm making it for Versace, it'l do  :D

Found a needle, strung two on and get going...thread falls off needle, every time it slides off i have to cut it a bit to reload, this happened a few times.. it's getting shorter and i think it's too short as it is, so i cleverly decided to tie a knot on it, the knot is too big and snags in the hole..tie a smaller knot and now i am two stitches in..needle breaks, i'm going for a coffee..i might go back to it later
Great tool replacement! A fork...like that.  :like: :tu:

Yes please  :gimme:

Borg, you reminded me of a trick (I don't always use it, that's why I forgot to mention it) to secure your thread on a needle.

1) thread the needle as per usual.

(Image removed from quote.)

2) take the point of the needle and stick it through the end of the thread

(Image removed from quote.)

3) pull end of the thread down over the eye, and then tighten the main part of the thread.

This is a great trick, especially the running short on thread!  :tu:

That's just what i needed, i will use that method in the future, better than a huge knot for sure

Oh, I like it a lot...enough to buy another! I am in Atlanta today and will be at the gun and knife show tomorrow. Looking for another Triathlete. Will be sending it the Behring to have a handle put on it.  :woohoo:  Because these are hand made,  I want a fuller fatter body as this one is slimmer and narrower. It just looks better but will take either or!

Nice fire, Borg!   :tu:

I've never used one of those sewing awls.   Be curious to know how well they work.....  :dunno:

Great uses, RF.

You are getting a lot of use during this challenge.  :tu:

Way to go Borg! I had the same issue with my Companion.  It takes some roughing it up and it works fine for a fire striker.

Helping Mrs. Rowland cut some spuds with the 119.  It works out great...just like the 110!

day 15: finally weekend and time for recovery

Solving problems you didn't know you had in the most obscure way possible

"And now, it's time to hand this over to our tame race axe driver. Some say, he can live in the forest for six months at a time without food, and he knows of a secret tribe of only women where he is their God. All we know is, he's call the Styx!" - TazzieRob

Day 15

Thanks for the kind comments! This is actually a knife that I made with my own two hands...and a lot of guidance. After watching one too many Forged in Fires, I decided to try it out. After scouring the inter webs, I found a local knife maker who was teaching some classes.
The metal is 1095 and the scales are black micarta. The class was just for the knife, no sheath but searching around, I found a local company that makes custom kydex sheaths. I try to support local businesses as often as I can.
Up till now, I have used it for minor cutting tasks: opening mail, boxes, etc.

My original intent for the knife is to be my main knife for backpacking and camping. I figure since I am getting the rest of my gear ready for spring, this challenge will provide the proper motivation for seeing what this knife is all about.

Ken

Ps any imperfections on the knife are a result of my own inexperience!

Great job with that, Ken.

Having made a couple of knives myself, I know first hand that it is not as easy as it looks (at least for me ). Your's looks excellent--I'd take that hiking any day!   :tu:

Day #15 - my main carry got little use today (opened a bag of jelly beans, which I completely forgot to photograph), so, it was up to the backup, to pickup the slack and go on cheese duty.
I gotta say, a skeletonized handle may be good for cleaning, but it's a challenge to grip while trying to cut a cheese block in half...
I'm thinking of buying some G10, and making a proper handle for it. In the meantime, I could wrap it in some paracord

I've done a paracord wrap on mine.  I've also tried grip tape, like gets used on hockey sticks (or tennis rackets?).
