Its the bottom of some steel and concrete exterior stairs.
Here is a wider pic.

Day: 08

No uses for Lyndax; she kept her pants on today. I've warmed up to my mask now and really like it--the fit could be a bit better but it works well. Snowing again.....

Thank you to that!  Interesting how you find that to pose the axe!

How thick do you think the leather needs to be in order to make a good mask?  I think I might follow suit and attempt to make one.

And look at that snow!  Must be beautiful!

Day 9

No usage and no photos. Had a flat out day at work and did 12 hours getting home after sunset. A High Voltage motor we changed out not even 12 months ago developed a fault this morning and it has taken all day to change it

Thanks Speedy, thanks Ray  :tu:

Is that the oyo ? I have one of their knives, made in Germany i think but i gather all the axes are made in Norway, i really like the little Viking one they make, the one copied from the one they found in the garden, they reckon its over 1000 years old, certainly stood the test of time  :tu:
It's the Øyo Sportsøks :tu: Or sporting axe in english. The Axes as far as I know is made in Norway yes.
The Viking axe they have is pretty cool, but this one was cheaper so I went for it :tu:

And look at that snow!  Must be beautiful!

This mask got made with fairly thick leather (7-8oz, typical for a knife sheath. I guess some people prefer 8-9oz.).  Really it's the welt that protects the edge (and you from the edge), so I think you could use thinner material as long as you use a sturdy bit of material for the welt. (And I added those Chicago screws for a little extra protection.)

For overall durability and protection, I'd go with a stout leather (like I did). I know not everyone uses a weight system to measure the leather, my 3 layers (side, welt, opposite side) measure about 7/16" at the edge (compressed).
