Day12
After a very expensive couple days with the garage I am back on the road again tonight.
This also means not much use today.
I did use the SOG to cut down some more chipboard but we've already seen that...So I zipped off the top of a pack of freeze-dried strawberries.
Normally I eat these strait as a snack but if you're eating on the road you can also add these to hot or cold cereals, yogurts, and desserts too.
I often have a packets of strawberries and instant oatmeal in my duffle bag
Nice snacks for sure! While I rather have fresh  - when I driving I prefer dried fruit with nuts!

Day13
Getting a roast prepped for the slow cooker.
Chuck, onion, pepper, kosher salt, bay leaves, a bullion cube and water.
I will add vegetables later, when its almost done.

I will try to remember a finished pic...but dont hold me to it
I used to be a lot of things, and someday will again.

Fuzzaxe Day 12

Finally finished turning the last of the window frames into kindling - it's now all nicely stored away in the stick shed for the coming winter.

(Image removed from quote.)

As a reward, I sharpened him up and got rid of all those nasty nicks.

(Image removed from quote.)

I have to say, I'm quite smitten with this little gem of an axe - he's an excellent and very faithful companion.  :dd:

I agree, Fuzzy, a very nice companion axe so far.  I feel I need to get out and do a bit more wood processing, but at the moment Lyndax is deemed to be a gem.

How'd you sharpen yer axe? File? Stone? Sandpaper?  Drug behind the car for a dozen miles?

Grandpa Nix favored a file followed by a stone. I've been converted to a sandpaper/stone system. (Sounds more impressive if'n you call it a 'system'.)

I like the file to get the big nicks out then stone, depends on what the damage is, if any

That probably is a better way to do it rather than just using a stone, especially if you're precious about the stone. Although, the stone managed the job in no time at all and as you can see from the pics there was some pretty nasty nicks. I'm tempted to get a puck stone - anybody had any experience with one of these?

I have 2 pucks. One old one I found at a refuse shop, and a Lansky. The Lansky is more aggressive as it hasn't been used much and isn't clogged up with oil. I usually just use a bit o' spit on it

day 13:  a bit more of those old style cakes

Solving problems you didn't know you had in the most obscure way possible

"And now, it's time to hand this over to our tame race axe driver. Some say, he can live in the forest for six months at a time without food, and he knows of a secret tribe of only women where he is their God. All we know is, he's call the Styx!" - TazzieRob

My puck stone --of uncertain origins--has been OK, but it's not my favorite. It probably needs to be cleaned, but it seems to smooth out and become slick, not cutting. If you get one, get one from a reputable maker like Lansky or Norton.

I thought I'd lost my no-name puck the other day......and that didn't really bother me. That tells you something.
