Coloured Alox Pioneer Collection

I’ve managed to complete my first SAK sub-collection. 

This is the 2015 Alox Pioneer release that appears to have been done for the South African market:

Pioneer Red Alox (0.8201.20R4)
Pioneer Blue Alox (0.8201.22R4)
Pioneer Black Alox (0.8201.23R4)
Pioneer Green Alox (0.8201.24R4)
Pioneer Orange Alox (0.8201.79R4)

A big thanks to Wayne at Sharp Edge Sharp Shooter (the South African Victorinox distributor) for letting me purchase the very last orange Pioneer they had that was their shop sample.

These Pioneers are not numbered but are considered a limited production run, although quantities are unknown. My favourite has to be the orange, but the dark green (almost black) is very subtle and the blue is also cool.

The Pioneer is my standard daily carry. Currently trying the Pioneer X, but I’m not convinced having the scissors justifies the extra size/weight so I may default back to a normal Pioneer, at least for workday EDC. The inline awl is a great all-rounder that I keep finding uses for, and the rest of the tool load is minimal, but very functional.

I carry the Pioneer on a suspension clip which keeps the SAK from getting lost or forgotten at the bottom of my pocket. I carry the Silver Alox as this is a current model so I’m not too stressed if it gets some wear from use.

The ‘stones’ it the pics are Lapis Lazuli (blue), coral (red), blood stone (green), calcite (clear), onyx (black) and Amber (orange).

I remember trying to figure out how to get at least one of these South African beauties. Never managed. Luckily these days it's quite easy to get a red/blue/black pioneer - you don't need to get super-lucky - but orange is still very hard to find.
It's also the nicest colour, as we all know! My orange pioneer is the one I decided never to sell. All the others come and go.

I like that these were sold as ‘standard’ Pioneers here, without any numbered edition markings, etc.

Will keep combing the local shops to see if I can turn up any more copies...

And here it is...The Cadet Alox in Bronze! 

Beautiful colour...almost a pink gold. I think this is quite an unusual model, not even listed on SAKWiki. Model number is 0.2601.BRNZ. No markings or numbering, but has Officier Suiss stamped on tang, without any logo.

Could be another South African unique colour?

Not as ‘in your face’ as my orange Pioneer, and the Cadet a good deal smaller. Switches the awl for a short nail file (framed design). Fit and finish is perfect as you’d expect.

I struggled to find an orange Solo, as—to the best of my knowledge—the South African series was the only source, and South African dealers don’t typically ship overseas. I did manage to wrangle one, but it took a while.

You’re right Frailer.  I wasn’t collecting SAKs when these where in stock a few years ago, and now the store stock is pretty much all gone. Certainly not found any coloured Solos, and it probably was the last orange Pioneer I hooked last week (had to bend some arms to get them to cut it off the display wall - could have got nasty). Sometimes half the fun is tracking these down! 
Helped a friend with some SAKs today, and managed to find a black Pioneer with Red shield in the store that wasn’t listed. Very happy!
