I'd help you if you lived closer!  Living in Texas can mean a lot of things, but it doesn't mean you're close to anyone else who lives in Texas.

Every time I move I say that next time I'm getting a removable company in to do it. Then I see the quote and do it myself ::)

How long 'till the last box is unpacked?  I think it was three years for me last time around :D
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

For some of them I do not even remember any more.  :D ... Possibly books, camping gear, old electronic stuff, maybe some pots and pans....
Mainly because of laziness, no longer needing them, not having any space for them etc

Hire pros.  I have moved many times in my life and I hated each and every time.  Fortunately the last time I did it I convinced the wife to let me hire some help.  Find a small local company that will bring in a few guys and a truck, then also bring in a couple of friends and you can minimize the damage done to yourself.

I told my wife that when we move we are either hiring pros or I'm going to burn the place down and we can buy all new things with the insurance money at the next place.

Last time I had to put a load of stuff in storage whilst I got the house habitable.

By the time I got sorted the cost of the storage added up to the value of everything I'd stored.... if I'd bought it all new!  Yep, I'd have been as well dumping the lot and buying a new TV, freezer, sofa ..... ...

I've moved nearly every 2-3 years of my life... up until I moved here, been in this place 8 years now, and happy we haven't moved again... yet... I know it will happen eventually.

Try intercontinental moving... it's entirely way more fun. On the upside I trimmed down a lot of junk I owned...

I've lost a lot of stuff over the years in moves that I really wish I hadn't.
The difficult we do immediately, the impossible takes a little longer.

I am a plant my feet down and grow roots kind a guy. I absolutely detest moving. I have a co-worker who isn't happy unless she is moving to a new place. I can't understand it.

I kind of understand.  I used to move around every two or three years but last place we stayed five and I've been in this house seven.  It gets harder to move with children in tow :)  It also costs more to move than you ever budget for and again, seems to be more expensive every time.

My plan for moving in the future is to go away for the weekend and hire a moving company.  When my camping trip is done I go home to the new place with everything put where it belongs.

Moved the big fish today- down 3 flights of stairs...into the truck and across town. Water in my shoes, down the back of my shorts, all over the seats in the truck.

haven't aquascaped the tanks yet..still letting the fish get on with the new water chemistry for a week or two. Still need to get the background on the tanks too.

When you decided to move did you even ask the fish what they thought about it?

I'm kind of reading this thread with gritted teeth, as I have a move on the cards soon ... I just don't know for certain where to yet  :-\
Most of my stuff can be just packed in boxes, and one van load should cover it. There's only really one tricky item to worry about ... an A0 drafting machine (one of these)

They can be tricky buggers to move without damaging the scales or mechanisms ... and it would have to go upstairs if I nab the house I viewed this morning  :ahhh :ahhh NOT an easy task

Thanks mate ... I got it  :ahhh :ahhh

Slight complication though, they decided to wait over a week after my application had been accepted to let me know  :bnghd: The uncertainty has been weighing on my mind a little, and it would have been nice to have a little more warning. I found out this morning I'm all set to take it over on Saturday  :ahhh :ahhh

Thankfully I'm able to span this home and that for a short while, so I can get that house pretty much functional (appliances etc) then move in over a couple of weekends
