How do you like the firefly? I have been wanting to get some just never have.

I like it...with caveats.

It works and throws nice sparks. I've used mine with some sort of fire starter tinder, e.g. waxed jute fibers.

I've also broken one when first trying to use them. They are delicate. I think the tricks are to support them while striking a spark and 'strike' them along the narrow edge. Do that with some firestarter and you'll get a fire. (Even the one I broke was able to start a fire.)

Gimmicks? Nope.

Plan A? Noooo......

But a nice little 'just in case'?  Yes, I think so. And so one goes in my Explorer.  :tu:

Day 9. Got cleaning and maintenance done today. One thing I do like about these challenges; they keep me from switching between a bunch of models, and thus from gunking a bunch up I have to clean.

One thing about the newer mag lens--its being removable really helps it when being cleaned. No fear of scratching it.

I agree completely with your assessment.  The firefly is definitely not a first option and you do really need some form of firestarter.  I usually use my finger to support and the wire stripper notch on the bottle opener/combo tool for striking when using for practice.

I always find the Electrician blade fascinating.  Not so much as using for Electrician trade which I am not in, but for making wood shavings and curls.
