Just got back from the vets now with badger. She said he has quite a bad thickening of the mitral vale and an enlarged upper chamber of the heart.

He has to have one heart medication twice a day, another heart med once a day and water tablets twice a day.

The long term prognosis depends on how his heart reacts to the medication.
She said his heart has undergone quite a severe Change in the last year and the meds could slow down any further deterioration, or not.
And he will have to have a heart scan every six months to monitor the situation.

I have had dogs all my life and they have never been insured and were all blessed with relatively good health and been long lived.

Badger is the first dog I have insured and thankfully so as I never would have been able to pay for his treatment.
My trouble is i never show initiative, but that's only because no one has told me to.

Today I had to say goodbye to my best friend badger.
He had fought long and hard against his chronic heart failure. When he was first diagnosed I was told he could have months or he could have years depending on how well he responds to his meds.

Well he made it years,

Late last night he suddenly went down hill fast, coughing continuously with a very audible crackle when he took a breath. I knew then there was no coming back from this as he was on the maximum dose of diuretic medication and there was nothing more to be done to stop his lungs filling up with fluid. So I took him for one last short walk before taking him to the vets.

I held him and told him how much I loved him while the vet put him to sleep.

I love you badger, you will always be iin my heart along with my other best friends who went before you.
