One of the characteristics of the AG Russell folding knives that I have come to appreciate, is some models have a blade length that almost seems to defy the length of the handle.
Nice knife and pics spudley! I love all of your AG Russell knives but my 2 favorites are the stag handled Arkansas Hunter and the green G10 handled Arkansas Hunter.I think they would be a perfect size for EDC!
If you ever wanna try them out, let me know and I can send them to you to see if it is something you'd like to buy. The G10 model is still available, but every now and then one of the elk antler models shows up.
That didn't take long...I just placed an order for a green G10 A G Russell Arkansas Hunter!
Other than my Vic Huntsman, that is my most carried knife. I even made a form fitting boiled leather sheath that holds the knife so securely that it "clicks" in.
Great story spudley! That was a great gift! Nice sheath!
As I mentioned before, the knife pictured in the video splash screen in the online store is my personal knife. Kinda makes owning it extra special. haha
Other than my Vic Huntsman, that is my most carried knife.Funny little story about mine:I remember when they first came out in the AG Russell catalog, I was super excited about getting one. Well, when my birthday came around, my (now ex) girlfriend handed me a large gift bag that was pretty heavy. I opened it to find an array of the most random stuff I had ever seen. Inside was such items as - hair dye, dryer sheets, laxatives, hemorrhoid cream and several other weird items. I just gave her a funny look and she chuckled and said, "dig deeper." Under a piece of paper at the bottom was the green G10 Arkansas Hunter. I was super excited and I don't think I ever received a knife that I kept playing with as much as that one. It definitely was a great gift. It has traveled with me as much as my Huntsman. I rotate my second knife from time to time, but always come back around to the Arkansas Hunter. I even made a form fitting boiled leather sheath that holds the knife so securely that it "clicks" in.(Image removed from quote.)
Some of the Texas Ranger models I have collected.(Image removed from quote.)Here you can see that some of these are pretty hefty knives!(Image removed from quote.)A comparison of the Texas Ranger and Arkansas Hunter.(Image removed from quote.)
The mail carrier just dropped this off. After seeing spudley's pictures of the A. G. Russell Arkansas Hunter I "had" to order one, and I must say I am not disappointed........the workmanship, fit and finish are all perfect. The blade is perfectly centered when closed, and it opens easily with the thumb. The blade is 8Cr13MoV at a Rockwell hardness of 57-59. I have used this steel before and I carry a pocket steel that will quickly touch up the edge when needed.I just ordered this 2 days ago and it got here that quick. As you can see from the pictures of it alongside my Buck S30V drop point hunter, the Arkansas Hunter has as much cutting edge as the Buck, but when closed the Arkansas Hunter is shorter which is nice for vertical carry in the back pocket. Thanks for posting the pictures of yours spudley!
That's a beauty Vic!!!
I got a AG recently...I repost it here in case folks here don't get over to the Trad daily carry thread. 5 1/4" closed. It's really growing on me....2 pics.
That is a beautiful knife SAK Guy!
Lockback Hunter. It seems so oversized, but this knife makes a GREAT camp knife.(Image removed from quote.)-snip-
Thanks Vic!! I can't find any info on it.
That is alright... it is better to have it and not be able to find the information on it than to be able to find the information on it and not be able to find the knife. That is the only one of those I have seen and it is a very nice shaped blade on it.
Thanks bud! I've only seen two, bought them both. Part of my insane philosophy (or so my ex wife says) of one to carry, one to collect.
Searched a different way....it's a Grandad's Lockback! 154CM stainless like on my Premium Scout.
Here's my Scout.
