Hi guys!

I'm not familiar with the PST and will like to know why this one is "extremely collectible" and expensive?

Always trying to learn more about LM tools! ;)

Not exactly sure if it's worth 600 big ones, but it is an early model, and in pretty decent shape.

  • Apparently it is possible to have too many tools;)
That is an early PST, but not the first version made (the first production PSTs were sold via the Cabela's and Early Winters catalogues back in 1983).

This one is in exceptionally good condition, but IMO not $600 rare, as they were made in large numbers.  I think I have 14 or so in my collection, and you still see them for sale from time to time.

Its in nice condition and the sheath is also pretty nice.  I thought the ones with hollow rivets were rarer than that one?
Its worth what someone will pay and I personally don't think its 600 rare.

Yep.   PSTs with hollow rivets, or "Leatherman, USA" etched on the blade, or no "USA" on the plier pivot are all rarer.  As are the original catalogue production ones with "Cabela's" stamped (not etched) on the handles, or "US Pat 4238862" only on the handles (Early Winters).

I found a hollow rivet POCKET SURVIVAL TOOL for quite a bit less.  If they sell it good on them however as said its not as rare as they think.

Its nice and I like the sheath.

I was so happy to have stumbled upon this.  I saw the sheath so I opened up and my partner saw my smile.  I was so elated.

  • Not all those who wander are lost.
$600 for a $$50 PST? :ahhh  A Japanese riveted might fetch a handsome price for their rarity, but I prefer a sabre blade on the PST. Clip point us more sturdy, though it's personal preference. Sabre bladed PST were rare, although been seeing a few more. Not seen a PST II with a sabre blade or I'd leap on one of those.  :D

My Japanese riveted PST cost me $25 two years ago, IIRC. This is just... nuts.
