How many of you carry a SAK as your only EDC?
on: November 05, 2019, 07:58:17 PM
I know this has been asked before, but just curious: How many of you EDC only a SAK?

If you do, please share which one.

If you EDC more than a SAK, feel free to share that too.

I have a custom alox rambler on my keys, but I really only consider my pioneer my EDC.  If I have pants on, that knife is with me.  And I don't EDC any other blade (unless I'm doing a 30 day challenge or something.)  Still voting combo, since I usually have my keys close by.
If the trees blew down the wind and no one was around, would the alphabet song really go backwards?

I carry only one SAK. Or MT for that matter. Right now the Spirit because of the 30 day challenge. On other days I switch between SwissChamp, Handyman and Mountaineer.

For fancy occasions with suit and tie I go with the Compact.

This was a tough question to answer.

I, too, answered “SAK combo,” as there is always a Classic on my key ring...and a Farmer in my bag.

Around the house I typically carry a Waiter; when out-and-about it’s usually a Compact.

I typically EDC my Explorer.  I spice things up with a Pioneer every once in awhile.

A SAK, a multi, and folder for me. The dedicated folder for general cutting chores and abuse allows me to keep the SAK blades sharp for delicate cutting needs. The multi because sometimes I need heavier duty implements or the pliers.  My most often carried combination, when not involved with a challenge, is a Swiss Champ with a Spirit tool in a leather pocket sheath, and a Myerchin titanium rigging knife which weighs less than most common folders even though it also has a marlin spike.

I chose SAK combo.
On any given day I have the following:

Vagabond & Vic Custom
Vagabond & Wenger Custom
Vagabond & Compact
Vagabond & MiniChamp
Vagabond & SwissChamp

Other Victorinox that could be coupled with the Vagabond are:  Yeoman, Explorer, Huntsman, Camper or Traveller Lite.

When not doing a challenge it is usually 2 SAK’s, 1 of which is on the belt, a fixie in the cargo pocket and a traditional in the other pocket.

Phone, pen, wallet, torch, keys....  :P  >:D

Historically, it could be any combination of stuff depending on the likely activities/locations/challenges of the day. That combination might not have a Swiss knife at all.

Lately, a Deluxe Tinker does the job around the house, and if going elsewhere I'll also have my keys, which have a Gerber Dime and Utilikey.

I will change this set up if I need to. When I went away for a few days in September, it was a Spirit X plus Voyager Lite. Occasionally (but not for a while), I'll grab a knifeless MP400 and a non-locking folder of some description. No Swissie. Although occasionally I'll have my neck lanyard on, which has an Alox Rambler and other goodies.

Hard to answer. I'll vote "plus multi", but there'll be days when that's wrong.

It honestly depends.  I always have a Classic and a No 4 Opinel on my keychain.  Sometimes I'll pack just a SAK, otherwise it's based on what I'm doing for the day.  I packed my Huntsman alone for 32 years.  Life was simpler then

I started EDCing a SAK because when I find I needed the extra tools on a pliers based MT I usually needed the actual tools. Then I thought why have weight and something that bumps into/gets stuck on objects when I don’t want it too. A SAK has all I need daily in a pocket friendly tool!

Most the time these days I carry only a SAK. A executive. If I need a screw driver or can opener, my Victorinox quattro and P-38 are in my wallet. If I go woods walking I carry a Buck 102 woodsman fixed blade. If I need more blade in town, I'll add a cadet or my old Wenger SI.

For 99.9% of the time, a SAK is in my pocket and thats all I need.
Don't get too serious, just enough will do.

In Tennessee I carry a folder (usually a switchblade because they are legal and really fun) and a SAK.
In NYC, I used to only carry a SAK, but now that the law has changed, I've been enjoying carrying a one hand opening/locking folder, usually an Al Mar Ultralight Falcon and a SAK.
I'm totally fine with just a SAK though.

Always a SAK with me, paired with Dime or the MP400.
The SAK can be the Ranger, Trail Guide, Compact, Sportsman or Rambler.
For the past ten years was Flik and Mountaineer

When I'm in "civilization" or out for a day hike, I have a Soldier or Compact, and nothing else

When I'm camping I have a Champion in my pocket, and a locking folder in my pack.

I voted SAK + folder, as I've been mostly carrying a Climber and a Benchmade Crooked River lately (not counting the Alox Bantam in my wallet for backup ).  Really though, anywhere but the woods (where I also want a fixed blade), I could carry nothing but a Climber, Huntsman, or Mountaineer and not feel in any way unprepared.

Usually weekdays for me these days - It's a Compact -  as I am a desk jockey!
I do have various 58mm on key chains - But I don't often carry keys !!
It was a Wenger S16 Patagonia for a while and I do have a few others in an EDC 'rotation': Explorer, MT.o Pioneer X (sadly not often carried :(

Weekends I mix it up a bit: SwissChamp, Leatherman Juice S2, Spirit

But what is amazing is that ......
I packed my Huntsman alone for 32 years.
So ditto Barry   :tu:    :D    :o

And this is so true .....
Life was simpler then

Just see my post above -       :D

I voted for the SAK combo, because of the alox classic on my key chain, but that one has more of a "key chain" function than a Sak function these days. I'll use it for the odd loose thread, or file a nail or two, and it serves as kind of a (cool) little backup.
But i'll use either a Climber or a Compact on a daily basis exclusively 95% of the times. That and my moded SD bits plus a Quattro covers all the basis (cuting/SD)i might need "on the go", and then some...  :tu:

For all other things (not on the go), if i need any tools for something, i'll use (dedicated) tools.  ;)

I usually went with just a SAK or Multitool.

However, since someone here pushed me down the rabbit hole of folding knives, I nowadays carry a SAK or multitool and a folder.
Sometimes one or each.

SAK combo.

I carry an Explorer with plus scales and a MiniChamp on my keys. At work it's the same combo. Any type of work around the house or the yard and it's the SwissChamp on my belt. If we're going out and I have to get dressed up, it's the Compact.

This whole thread is in need of the question;

If you have a SAK, then do you really need another knife?  :D
