Wenger or Vic EvoWood Explorer
on: November 25, 2019, 12:48:18 PM
Has there ever been an Evowood or wooden handled Explorer?

Not a fan of plastic scales, and thought perhaps I would look into acquiring or swapping to an Explorer with a glass magnifier and wooden scales. Not finding anything online, and Wenger knives seem to have vanished.

So have a Wenger Evowood S557 that has not seen much use past the nail file. The wrench fell short of what I was wanting, the the dual-position pliers I've never found useful either. And it has the other form of can opener that I do not care for. But I do appreciate the walnut handles. Is probably why it's not found a home elsewhere.

I don't think there's been a wooden Explorer (other than the 2013 Damascus which wasn't cheap then and isn't cheap now)
Since there are a bunch of Vics in wood - Spartan, Huntsman and more recently Hiker - it's possible that they will surprise us with an Explorer but they have a habit of not building the SAK you really want.
Maybe it's possible to remove the scales from a Spartan and put them on an Explorer. I haven't tried this. There are certainly wooden scales to be found on places like Etsy dot com -some of them look better than Victorinox's!
