Thank you for sharing that  information.  Makes me wonder if Camillus made the blade, yet the scissors, file, scales and metal body were made by other manufacturers.  Leatherman Micra wouldn't exist for another decade, so I doubt Leatherman made the file.

The spring scissors look exactly like the scissors in my century knives. I’m guessing that as parts ran out the new century scissors were swapped in. That would make the spring scissor DL2 a potential rarity. Probably doesn’t make it worth anything, though.

Financial rarity perhaps not, but information wise I'd say this is worth more.  Glad I managed to find that 1987 advertisement, as this did provide minor information. Wonder what other variations there were under the Schrade Captain series DL-2.  Interesting how the Camillus 1995 had more different variations than the Schrade DL-2.

Also, I’m wondering if the camillus and schrade dl2 were made at the same time in the same factory, or if the camillus came after the DL2’s production ended. If the camillus is most often found with the backspring scissors, it may have been a co-production deal, and the spring scissors showed up for the same reason - the century line began.

Or camillus May have produced the backspring scissors for many more years, and then decided to go with the cheaper spring scissors.

Without dated advertising literature from camillus, that will be hard to know for sure.

Charles.

Ooooh found some more good info:

http://www.scoutknives.net/index.php/boy-scout-knives-1/camillus

Apparently cammilus was producing at the same time, and also long after, the schrade DL-2’s production run. Quote from the above link:

Actual production numbers are not complete, but there are factory notes specifying some of the production runs as follows: 10/1986 (First Time) 10,000 pcs; 10/1987 2,500 pcs; 01/1988 4,500 pcs. The production of this knife was prolific, with over 17,000 pieces produced in the first two years.

1998 suggested retail was $29.95, 2007 retail was $41.75. Manufactured 1987-2007. (Data courtesy Tom Williams)

Haha, you found the same site I was about to post.  Good job locating that information.  Here is a back up copy that information should that site ever have that information deleted.

While this isn't germane to the Schrade DL-2 or the Camillus 1995, apparently Ulster did some work in the Schrade plant as well.  Specifically I am mentioning the Sears/Craftsman 9549/Ulster 114.

This thread has some interesting information.  Is there a chance Ulster or Colonial company also was involved in some way?

Forgot to mention this earlier, through the website Archive.IS I created a screenshot of the first page of this thread.  If the images do not populate, try refreshing the browser you are using.  Digital information runs the risk of being deleted at any time for whatever reason.  This archiving service isn't 100% perfect, but is a great back up as long as the uniform resource locator is book marked or this information is stored elsewhere.

This is the link to the first page of the Sears 95212 thread.    To search for this thread in the that Archive site, include the https  and the rest of this sentence;  forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,83577.0.html.   Typing in Sears 95212 will not yield this result.

While this information is still available online, this is scattered and speaking personally, I wouldn't never known any of this information prior to Chopper mentioning the information he did.  Perhaps others and those in the future may find this information useful.
