Where can I sell an old Swiss Army knife?
on: March 01, 2020, 11:42:24 PM
Hello,

My father passed away recently and I have been helping my mum clear out his study.

We came across an old Swiss Army knife in unused condition (see attachment).

It has Monte Carlo Mai 84 on it. We believe this to be from an IBM convention.

Is there a market for old knives?

I am trying to get my mum as much as I can from my dad's old stuff.

Any directions you can point me in would be greatly received.

Many thanks.

Giles

Giles, sorry about the passing of your dad.  If you can post a few pics of the knife so we can determine which tools it has we can quickly determine which model of Swiss Army knife you have.  It looks like a pretty modern knife, possibly a very common Huntsman, and may have more sentimental value to you than economic value.  The logo typically doesn't add to value, as some folks dislike logos but others prefer to collect them.

Giles, I am sorry to hear about the death of your father. You have come to the right place to inquire about this knife. More pictures would help identify the specific knife model and it’s approximate value. My guess is that it is a Champion based on the tools I can see (Phillips and magnifier) and the width it appears to have occupied in the pouch shown.

The market for these depending on exact condition and box is approximately $30-$50 USD on US *bay.

You can visit the SAKWiki link on this page to search or post more pictures here for us to identify.

Thanks guys for your responses.

I have attached an image of the knife with all tools open.

Here in the UK, we aren't allowed t sell knives on eBay. I will see if I can advertise on the US site only.

Is there anywhere else that knife sales are welcome?

Welcome.  Sorry about the passing of your father.  As mentioned, what you have is a Champion as kamakiri was able to determine.  Price can be best determined by past sales ( auction sites ) and what someone is willing to pay, so I cannot help there  :salute:.  I'll defer to kamakiri on his assessment of price.

You can sell on MTO since you are a member here, however please read,

We'd love if you stuck around as well and not just sell.  Good luck either way and again sorry for the passing of your father.  Its a nice condition knife, you sure you dont want to keep it?

In the UK, there's etsy, Shpock, and Gumtree, but none of them will yield big money for you. As mentioned before, there's probably more value sentimentally than financially, unless you happen to find someone who met their first love at that convention, or has significant other meaning attached to the inlay. You might get £25-35 for it, or you can keep it as a memento, and carry "Dad's knife" everyday.
