They’ve cracked their $50k stretch target with 13 days to go. Looks like this is going to be a popular little accessory.

I have been trying to wrap my head around these, and I don‘t see a viable usage scenario, but maybe I am missing something.

If you are in an emergency situation, let‘s say stranded in the woods, you are most likely exhausted, dehydrated, and shivering. Not the best conditions to get a fire started with such a little item. So you better have a proper fire steel, or something easier to use in your emergency pack.

If you are camping or doing a barbecue, you got other means at your disposal. So, what do you guys intend to use it for?

Just checked and saw the $50k cracked.
I guess isolation might be working in favor of the fundraising. Bored people spending online.

Glad the exclusive is in!

I guess it could be used to rescue the BBQ! I know it's not ideal for a real emergency, but appeals to my 'better than nothing option'

Like I said before, I was somewhat skeptical of the FireFly...but even using just 1/2", it sparked just fine at close range. And is capable of throwing decent sparks a fair distance if needed. Further than I would have guessed.

I'm not persuaded by this thing myself but I suppose the mindset is that a single match is better than no match to a desperate person.

Its fun.  Its a neat accessory for our wonderful SAK.  As far as an emergency tool?  It sure couldn't be a bad thing to have with your SAK.

$92,497 pledged so far. Really accelerated since I last checked.

Nice that they say the target dates won’t be affected by covid. I hope that remains true.

What are the benefits of firesteels over Bic lighters? I've never seen a firesteel around here but lots of people carry lighters!

I'd say it shouldn't be a this vs that to best see how each can be a plus for one who does outdoorsy type stuff.  The ferro rod works in all weather and when wet.  Its dependable, consider both a lighter and ferro rod need tinder and there are possibilities and times when a lighter does and can fail.  Loose that wheel and small flint and then what?

I carry both.

For those that didn’t see, one of the optional add-ons is the ‘tactical’ gray version of the tinder which is also advertised as wind proof.

Definitely gonna add some of these to my award shipment.

:iagree: Carrying both is a safe bet. While no one will argue about the convenience of a lighter, there’s no expiry on a ferro rod if stored carefully.

Surveys went out today for higher level / June shipment backers. Check the last update and your email!

A bit later as explained in the update...and also remember to order add-ons first if you want to save via ‘combined’ shipping. Added a bunch of the wind-proof Helix and a ‘NutSAK’ scaler Camper.

Not my choice for the stretch goal exclusive to be Vic red...but still eager to get them!

First shipments started last week. Hoping mine show up today or tomorrow since I’m one of the early #1XX backers and a June shipping target award.

No tracking info sent...and I don’t think they will be.

And of course, just 17 minutes after I posted above...tracking info shows up!  Maybe I’ll have them Friday or Saturday.

Still feeling like a kid at Xmas!

Love innovation like this, being able to carry a small fire steel and tinder in the empty space of a corkscrew is a fantastic idea, the fact it sounds like they work as advertised is icing on the cake!

That and I'm a sucker for glow in the dark stuff
